February 2015 Newsletter No 2
Annwyl Rhieni,
Dear Parents,
Congratulations
Congratulations to the School Council on getting through to the Regional Final of the Enterprise Troopers competition as a result of their work on setting up their ‘Health Yourself’ initiative. The School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) which is a sub group of the School Council, are off to Coleg Y Cymoedd, Nantgarw on Thursday February 26th to present their project to a panel of judges. Well done everyone and good luck for the next round!
Sport
Congratulations to our school rugby team on putting in a great performance at the recent Newport Schools Rugby Tournament and coming joint third in the cup! Well done!
Website
The new website is now up and running. There are still amendments that need to be made but we’re getting there! When you go onto the website there is an opportunity to sign up to receive regular updates and posts. This will be done on a weekly basis, every Friday.
Good Bye and Good Luck!
Miss Davies, currently teaching Year 5, is leaving us today. Miss Davies has been with us since the beginning of September and has developed into a competent and conscientious practitioner. We are really sorry to see her go but delighted that she will be moving on to take up a position in Marshfield Primary School. Best wishes for the future Miss Davies!
Welcome Back!
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Munslow back today following her maternity leave. Mrs Munslow will be resuming her position as Deputy Head and teaching Year 5 after half term. Miss Davies and Mrs Munslow have been working together today in Year 5 to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
Nursery Building Update
Huge progress has been made this week with digging the foundations for the nursery. Mr Cullen is taking photographs of the site as it develops so that we can show the children how it is changing and the progress being made. Over the half term break, work will be carried out on the car park. The footpath will be re directed slightly to accommodate four new car parking spaces towards the left of the existing car park as you look up at the school from the bottom of the driveway. This will be completed by the time we come back to school on Monday 23rd February.
Health and Safety
We are concerned that a significant number of children run, at speed, down the school path at the end of the school day. Not only are they in danger of falling and hurting themselves, but some children have been seen, by parents, running straight out into the road. We have spoken to all the children in assembly about how dangerous this is and we ask that you do the same at home. Thank you!
Parents Pulling Up the Drive.
As you are aware our car park is small and becomes very congested during the day. This will continue to be the case even with the above alterations. Please can I remind you that under no circumstances are parents to pull up the drive when dropping children off or collecting them. Thank you!
World Book Day
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. Your child will receive a blank book which they can use to create their own book – these will be judged on presentation and content. (Please return finished books to school by Wednesday 4th March.) We will also be dressing up as book characters and awarding prizes for the best characters.
