Jigsaw

At Glasllwch Primary School, we believe that to be able to learn and reach their full potential, children need to be happy, confident, understand themselves, understand their feelings and know how to get on with each other and make friends.  To help all the children with this we use a whole-school approach called Jigsaw to embed Personal, Social, Health and Economic education and Relationships and Sexual Education (PSHE and RSE) .  Children take part in weekly sessions, with a focus each half-term on one of the following six themes:

  • Being Me in My World
  • Celebrating Differences
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me
  • Relationships
  • Changing Me

These carefully considered and crafted, age-appropriate sessions lead to opportunities for deeper understanding of self and others, high-quality discussions and continual reflection on personal wellbeing and support networks at school, home and the wider community.  Each class has its own cuddly puzzle piece friend who helps to guide their class through the various sessions and can be used by children as a comfort and support when sharing their own thoughts, feelings and ideas.

Woodford Primary School - Jigsaw PSHE

Our children love Jigsaw sessions!  When visiting the school, you will be able to see some of their work in their class Jigsaw Journals, but in the meantime, here’s some of the things the children have had to say about Jigsaw:

I like listening to other people’s goals and trying to help them achieve them.’

‘Listening to the chime, I feel calm.’

‘My favourite Jigsaw lesson was the one where we did scenario cards and acted them out.’

‘I enjoy it because I like how everyone is different.’

‘My favourite lesson is our first Jigsaw lesson when we thought about being yourself and how it is important to never think that anyone is better than who you are.’
