All children are expected to participate in Home Learning opportunities. The nature of the activities will vary as they move through the school. Class teachers will share Home Learning activities with home via SeeSaw and/or Google Classroom as appropriate (Google Classroom for Y3-6 only). These activities will support and complement our overall approach to learning and curriculum projects, whilst promoting children’s life skills and enhancing their well-being.
Each week children will be set Home Learning activities, which will include:
- ‘Daily Jobs’. These are literacy and numeracy activities which will include reading, practising spellings and number bonds/times tables.
- A weekly ‘Must Do’ activity. These activities will help reinforce class learning, be linked to your child’s curriculum project, or will help to develop life-skills and promote well-being.
- Individual Targets for children to work on will also be sent home, via Seesaw. These may be linked to language, mathematics, social or physical targets.
Home learning tasks will be shared with your child via Seesaw on a Friday and should be completed and returned to your child’s class teacher by Thursday the following week. We ask that home learning is completed by the due date so that staff are able to view and feedback on home learning. Children can access their Seesaw account using their unique QR code stuck in the front of their home learning books.
We encourage children to be creative in the way they present their learning, therefore your child may use their home learning book to complete tasks or some tasks can be completed directly on Seesaw (N-Y6) and Google Classroom (Y3-Y6), or they can be presented in whichever manner they prefer. Work completed in home learning books must be brought into school, but any Seesaw/Google Classroom activities can be submitted digitally.
When home learning tasks require your child to complete them using Google programmes, such as: Google Classroom, Google Docs and Google Slides, your child must use their HWB log in to access these programmes.
Whilst some activities can be completed directly on these platforms, you can also take photos or videos to evidence your child’s learning and upload these to Seesaw.
Our ‘Virtual Learning’ website page provides a variety of information to support parents and carers with accessing online platforms such as Hwb and Google Classroom, as well as a range of online learning resources to support the curriculum.
Reading At Home
Children will have a wide range of reading experiences in school. They will read individually, in groups and as a class. You can help by immersing your child in books at home. Reading to them is really important. Introduce them to a wide range of books – fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Make reading together a special time – without pressure. Remember that the aim is to instil a love of books and a passion for reading.
