School News - Friday 10th July ‘26

Wow! What a fantastic fortnight we have had in school! So much to celebrate and share…

Cinderella & Rockerfella

This week we have welcomed families into school to enjoy our Year 6 performance of Cinderella & Rockerfella! The children were absolutely fantastic – singing, dancing and acting with confidence and enthusiasm! We are so proud of them! Well done everyone! What a way to end their Glasllwch journey! It was wonderful to see our choir taking part in the show – they did a brilliant job! Diolch!

A HUGE THANK YOU to Mr Cornelius for helping us with the music and to all the staff for their hard work! Also, a BIG thank you to all the parents who have put together costumes for the performances - the children all looked amazing! Thank you!

World of Work Day

Today, the whole school took part in our 'World of Work' Day, giving children the opportunity to explore a wide range of careers that may inspire them in the future.

We were incredibly fortunate to welcome so many parents and members of our wider community to lead talks and activities throughout the day. A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time to share their knowledge, experiences and passion. This day would not have been possible without your support.

Our pupils gained so much from the experience, and the day has helped us to develop ambitious, capable learners; enterprising, creative contributors; ethical, informed citizens; and healthy, confident individuals.

We were delighted to welcome an impressive range of visitors, including: dentists; firefighters; veterinary nurses; museum curators; software engineers; quantity surveyors; lawyers; Welsh Government managers; fashion designers; bakers; global health researchers; teachers; cardiac physiologists; recruiters; business owners; and even an actor-turned-author. What an incredible variety of careers for our children to discover!

Finally, a very big thank you to Mrs Zahr for all of her hard work in organising such a fantastic day.

Siarter Iaith

We are delighted to announce that this week we were awarded with the Siarter Iaith Silver Award – ffantastig! Members of the Local Authority School Improvement Service (LASIS) spent time in school meeting with our Criw Cymraeg to hear about how they promote the Welsh language throughout school and the wider community. Our visitors commented on the strong Welsh ethos within school and were blown away by the role Criw Cymraeg take in leading assemblies, promoting playground games, and their engagement with a number of stakeholders. A big thank you to our 2024-25 Criw Cymraeg for supporting us with this award! DIOLCH! Also, diolch yn fawr iawn Mrs Logan for leading our school through this award.

Learning Conversations

It was wonderful to welcome so many parents and carers into school for our Learning Conversations last week. These sessions gave children the chance to proudly share their work, reflect on their progress, and talk about what they’ve enjoyed and achieved this year. Seeing families engage so positively with their child’s learning journey helps build confidence and strengthens the home-school partnership. Thank you for being part of these valuable conversations!

Summer Fete

A huge thank you to our fantastic PTA for organising and running such a successful School Fete last Friday! The event was packed with fun and excitement, including: a fabulous performance from Year 5, brilliant live music, entertaining games and competitions, visiting animals, and interactive gymnastics sessions with Head Over Heels. Families enjoyed delicious food from the BBQ, tasty refreshments, and a wonderful community atmosphere throughout the afternoon. We are SO grateful for all the hard work and dedication that went into making the fete such a memorable event for everyone! Thank you to everyone for coming along!

Book Fair

A big thank you for supporting the Book Fair last week. We are delighted to have raised over £500 already to spend on books for school. This money will be used to purchase books linked to our curriculum projects and to support reading throughout the school. Diolch!

Chartwells Eco-Conference

This week Teg and Idris, two of our Eco-Champions, took part in an Eco-Confrerene at The John Frost High School. They took part in three workshops including: a VR headset experience learning about human impact on the planet; a workshop exploring waste created by food packaging; and a session learning about food waste and the environmental impact of food production. These important messgaes will be shared with our Eco-Champions and the wider school next academic year. Diolch Mrs Hall for taking the children to the conference.

Newport Wetlands

On Thursday of last week, Year 3 visited Newport Wetlands as part of their enquiry ‘How do we affect our environment?’ During their visit the children developed their geograohical enquiry skills enabling them to answer their enquiry question back at school. Thank you parents/carers who supported with the visit!

Football Tournament

Also last week our Y5/6 Football Team took part in a football tournament at Newport Velodrome. The children played brilliantly; they won all but one of their games. Fantastic effort! Well done everyone!

Goodbye Mr Taylor

Last week we said goodbye to Mr Taylor, who is moving on to a teaching post in a local school. A massive thank you to Mr Taylor for all his hard work and commitment whilst being part of the Glasllwch Team. This week we have welcomed Mrs Parsons back from maternity leave.

Pedestrian Training

Year 2 have been taking part in Pedestrian Training provided by Newport City Council. They have been learning how to cross the road safely. Da iawn!

Breakfast Club

As you will know, we are delighted to be able to continue offering a Breakfast Club for our families as we move into the 2026-27 academic year. Breakfast Club will run between 8:15-8:50am. For security reasons the playground gates will be closed from 8:20am and will reopen for the start of the school day at 8:45am.

School Uniform Reminder

As a school we take pride in our school uniform and consider it an important aspect of our school ethos and vision. We ask that, when we return to school in September, all children wear school uniform and black school shoes to school.

Below is a reminder of our agreed school uniform from the School Prospectus which can be found in the Online Office on our school website.

School Uniform:

Grey trousers, skirt or pinafore dress, purple sweatshirt or sweat cardigan, gold polo shirt, white or grey socks/tights and black shoes. In the summer, grey shorts and gold polo shirts or yellow/purple gingham dresses would be most welcome.

P.E. Kit:

It is also important that all children wear the correct school kit on PE days. Navy blue or black shorts and a white T-shirt and trainers for use outside. They will also need a black track-suit or joggers for wearing outside when the weather is cold.

Welsh Phrase of the Week

‘Sut wyt ti?’ – ‘How are you?’

Upcoming Dates

Diary dates for the week ahead can be found on our home page. Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the remainder of the summer term.

Enjoy a relaxing and restful weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J. Munslow
