School News - Friday 17th July ‘26

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have come to the end of a very busy and tremendously successful year in school. The children, staff, parents, PTA and Governors have all worked extremely hard and once again we have had many reasons to celebrate!

Glasllwch continues to be a school to be proud of, where every child is valued as an individual and where we have expectations of real achievement for everyone. It is a school that strives to be a ‘centre of excellence'. WELL DONE everybody!

Year 6 Leavers

Yesterday the Year 6 children held their Leavers’ Assembly. The children took us on a trip down memory lane of their time in Glasllwch and told us about their hopes and dreams for the future. It really was super! Well done children and thank you to Miss Summers, Mrs Goldsworthy and Mrs Hall for all their hard work.

Following the concert, the staff and children were treated to a session of bowling at Hollywood Bowl, Cwmbran, followed by lunch! A BIG thank you to the PTA for funding the trip.

Sports

A BIG thank you to all the staff who run after school sports clubs and organise matches and events: Mr Burgess for organising the rugby and Mr Taylor for organising the football; Miss Martin, Mrs Bunn, Mrs McArdell and Mrs Fitzgerald for organising the netball; and those staff who have supported children attending events such as tennis competitions, hockey, table tennis and cricket matches.

Also, a MASSIVE thank you to all the parents who have been into school to help out with our clubs and sporting activities - we really do appreciate your support.

Clubs and Pupil Groups

A HUGE thank you to all the staff for their time, commitment and enthusiasm with which they run after school clubs: to Mrs Ash, Miss Summers, Mrs Hall and Miss Templeton for Choir Club; Miss Jenkins and Miss Venn for Drawing Club; Mrs Lane, Mrs Bibi and Mrs Sullivan for Walking Club; Miss Hughes and Miss Wrozyna for Brick Club; and Miss Colwell and Mrs Walshe for Film Club. We have also been fortunate enough to have extra-curricular activities run by outside providers such as: Newport Live, Dream Doodle, and Kidslingo. Diolch pawb!

Massive thanks also to Mrs Lane for overseeing all of our pupil participation groups, and for her work with our Well-being Ambassadors, alongside Miss Colwell. Thank you to Mrs Logan for her work with Criw Cymraeg, Mr Taylor for his work with the Digital Leaders, Miss Summers for supporting our Learning Squad, Mrs McArdell for her work with Eco Council, Mrs Zahr and Miss Hughes for supporting our Community Committee and Mr Burgess for his work with our Resolution Role Models. And, of course, the fabulous Teaching Assistants who work alongside the children to make these groups a success. These groups represent the children in our school, enabling them to have a say in how the school operates and to contribute to policies and procedures. Well done everyone!

Governors

A huge thank you to our Governing Body for their hard work and commitment throughout the year. The Governing Body plays a key role in supporting the strategic direction and financial management of the school. Their time and effort are very much appreciated. Diolch yn fawr!

Thank You Team Glasllwch

A HUGE thank you to our amazing team here at Glasllwch:

Teachers and Teaching Assistants continue to be nothing short of inspirational in ensuring all learners in our care have been supported in terms of their wellbeing and their learning. They have worked tirelessly and creatively, engaging learners in authentic, purposeful and meaningful learning experiences. You truly are fantastic!

Mrs Griffiths has ensured constant and effective communication between home and school. She manages the office incredibly efficiently and effectively. Thank you so much!

Mr Simmonds and Mr Cullen, our cleaning staff and canteen staff have played a vital role in ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of our school community. Superb!

PTA

Our PTA have worked incredibly hard this year – they have organised and run a number of fun and fund-raising events. During this academic year the PTA has raised over £9000!!! This is absolutely amazing! Thank you SO SO much PTA and everyone who has supported the events – your support and generosity is VERY much appreciated! There has been a really lovely community feel around school – diolch pawb! A special mention for the PTA Committee who work tirelessly all year planning, organising and running events – you are amazing! Thank you!

All money raised by the PTA directly benefits the children, supporting the children’s learning and wellbeing. Earlier this year, PTA money raised contributed to the purchase of our playground shelter – brilliant! This has made such a difference to the whole school community. The PTA have also provided each class with money to purchase classroom resources, and continue to support our Teachers2Parents texting service. Diolch yn fawr iawn!

Parent Helpers

A BIG THANK YOU to all parent helpers for your continued support in school. Without your help it would not be possible to take the children on trips, to operate so many successful after school clubs or to maintain the high standards that we have in school.

Goodbye and Goodluck!

It is time for us to say Goodbye to Year 6. They have been a truly wonderful class and we will all miss them very much. We wish them the very best of luck as they move to their new schools and look forward to hearing of their progress.

We also say goodbye to Miss Hughes, Mrs Parsons, and Miss Smith who are moving on to teaching posts in other schools – thank you so much for all you have done for the children, staff and families at Glasllwch. We wish you the very best in your new roles!

Thank You

Finally, we would like to thank you for the support you have shown us throughout the year. The partnership between home and school is essential if children are to flourish and reach their full potential. The effectiveness of our relationship has been clearly shown through pupils’ progress in learning, children’s all-round achievements, feedback from the Local Authority School Improvement Service (LASIS), and through having a school full of happy children. We continue to aim for our children to be: ambitious and capable; healthy and confident; ethically informed; enterprising and creative. We constantly strive towards our vision of being a ‘Centre of Excellence’ and to reach for the stars.

A MASSIVE thank you from all of the staff for the very kind gifts we have received – diolch yn fawr iawn!

Attendance

Well done to Year 5 for having excellent attendance this year- 95.8%! Fantastic!

Our whole school attendance target this year was 96%. We have missed it for this year achieving 94.4%. A polite reminder that holidays should be taken outside of term time. Requests for absence will be assessed on an individual basis. We continue to monitor attendance on a fortnightly basis and will contact families if we have any concerns. Thank you for your support and co-operation.
