School News - Friday 19th June ‘26

19 Jun 2026

Our school vision is for this school to be ‘a centre of excellence at the heart of the wider community’. This week has demonstrated what a wonderful school community we have!

We have had an exciting and enjoyable week with so much to celebrate! The children have continued to shine through a variety of rich curriculum experiences and authentic learning opportunities.

These are some of the highlights from this week…

Sports Day

We are delighted that this year’s Sports Day was a fantastic success! The children took part in a wide range of events, from sprints and relays to obstacle courses and throwing competitions, showing great determination, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was heart-warming to see the children cheering each other on and celebrating every effort and achievement. We were particularly proud of our Year 6 boys for their thoughtful and kind behaviour - wow, what a pleasure to see. Da iawn pawb!

A big thank you to our wonderful PTA for keeping everyone refreshed with snacks and drinks, and to all the families who came along to support – your encouragement made the day even more special!

Community Afternoon Tea

On Thursday we welcomed local community members to our school for Afternoon Tea. Our Community Committee invited residents of Home Valley and other community members for an afternoon of refreshments and entertainment. It was wonderful to see the children interacting with our visitors so confidently and politely – they did a brilliant job of serving drinks and cakes. Also, children from across the school performed – Year 1 played their violins and sang in Welsh; our school choir performed some favourites; Year 5 sang a medley of songs through the ages; Year 6 treated us to some of their ’Cinderella’ songs; and Community Committee told some super jokes to make everyone laugh!

Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon and have given us such positive feedback!

Community Forum

On Monday, the Glasllwch Community Forum met to generate some fantastic parent workshops ideas for the upcoming academic year. We discussed exciting ideas, such as: ‘Using Digital Tools on Hwb to Support Learning at Home’, ‘Understanding the Power of Play’, and ‘Emotional Regulation Strategies’.

Our Community Forum is a vital space where families and school staff collaborate to drive positive changes for our children. Attendance has been a bit low this year, and we would love to see more friendly faces in our next meetings! Your voice matters—please join us to share your views, spark new ideas, and help our school community thrive.

Community Stay and Play

This term we launched our new Community Stay and Play sessions on Tuesday mornings (9-9:30am), and they have been a wonderful success! Open to everyone in our community with children aged 0–3, these sessions offer fun, engaging, play-based activities. It is a fantastic way for littles ones to become familiar with our school building and friendly staff, while giving parents and carers a welcoming space to chat and network. We have received some truly lovely feedback from those who attended, and we are thrilled to share that we hope to continue these sessions next year! Our next Stay and Play session is on Tuesday 30th June - we look forward to seeing lots of you there.

Ned's Resilience Challenge

Today we have been very fortunate to have a visit from The Ned Show, who hosted a whole school assembly about resilience and never giving up. The children thoroughly enjoyed and engaged with the performance, especially Ned's yo-yo tricks and how he keeps trying even when it can be tough!
The performance was funded by another school in a 'pay it forward' way. The Ned team have left a selection of yo-yos at school that are available to be purchased. Mrs Griffiths has shared information regarding Ned's "Six Trix" tricks, prices, and how to purchase a yoyo. All funds from the purchases will go towards another school being able to access the roadshow and learn about resilience as our children have done so today.

Please note- all purchases are to be paid for in advance via ParentPay. There are a limited number of each type of yo-yo however we can order more if needed.

PTA Success

A massive thank you to the PTA for continuing to support our school. We really do appreciate all your hard work! Recent events, such as the Family BBQ and Break the Rules Day, have raised over £1200! Fantastic! Thank you everyone!

PTA Fete Reminder - We look forward to seeing everyone at the Summer Fete on Friday 3rd July. On this day, school will be closing at 3pm for all year groups. All children must be picked up from school at this time - children at the fete must be accompanied by an adult. The fete will be officially open to the public at 3.15pm.  The fete is always a popular event - please come and support us!

Learning Conversations

As previously mentioned in our News Updates, we are holding ‘Learning Conversations’ in the coming weeks, providing an opportunity to spend time with your child looking at their books and talking with them about some of the activities and experiences they have engaged in during this academic year. Your child will have the opportunity to share with you the learning they have enjoyed, what they are most proud of and, for our older learners, how they have developed as a learner since September.

A reminder of the dates:

29.6.26 - Rec-Y2 Learning Conversations - from 2pm

30.6.26 - Nursery Learning Conversations – 10:45am/2:30pm

1.7.26 - Y3-Y6 Learning Conversations - from 2pm

Last week you will have received information from Mrs Griffiths. If you have any questions please contact the school office, thank you.

Parent/Carer Survey

At Glasllwch Primary School we aim to provide the very best school experience for all our learners. We value the partnership between home and school and believe it is vital to ensure children reach their full potential. As a school we are constantly evaluating and reviewing our practice, systems and processes; seeking the views of a variety of stakeholders. As parents/carers we welcome your feedback. If you could complete the survey using the link that was emailed out to you it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Reporting Absences

A polite reminder that all absences need to be reported to the school office. This is important so that we can ensure learners are safe and maintain accurate records of attendance. Thank you for your co-operation.

Hot Weather

During the warmer weather we encourage the children to wear hats on the yard at play times and to have sun cream on when they come to school. Also, please make sure the children bring water to drink to school in a plastic sports bottle. All staff are aware of sun safety and will encourage the children to sit in the shade if they are too hot.

Welsh Phrase of the Week

‘Beth yw enw dy ffrind?’ - ‘What is the name of your friend?’

Kindness Challenge

This month our Wellbeing Ambassadors have set us the kindness challenge: 'Help with Welsh'.

Parking

We have received calls from local residents this week about cars being parked dangerously or in front of driveways. A polite reminder to park considerately – thank you!

Upcoming Dates

Diary dates for the week ahead can be found on our home page. Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year.

Enjoy a relaxing and restful weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J. Munslow
