Trip to Tredegar Park
The children in Year 2 had a fabulous time visiting Tredegar Park on Tuesday as part of their curriculum project ‘Why are parks important in our community?’ The children looked at the landscape, learned about the facilities at the park, thought about human and physical features of the park and had a super time enjoying the playground! A big thank you to all the adults who helped make the trip a success!
Visit to Jews Wood
On Thursday our Reception class went on an exciting walk to Jews Wood. They had a fantastic time engaging in a variety of outdoor learning activities and finding out about their local environment. Diolch all the parents and carers who were able to come and help make the visit a success!
Learning about our Locality
Today Year 5 have been exploring the local area, collecting data and making observations to support their enquiry ‘How does your local area shape the person you are?’. Whilst walking within the local area, the children used their map skills to plot a route and mark symbols onto their map using a key. They recorded a variety of different buildings in the area, including residential, commercial and religious buildings, reflecting on the diversity we have in our community. A big thank you to all the adults who helped make the trip a success!
Year 1 and Year 2 Reading Meeting
A huge thank you to all those parents and carers who attended our Year 1 and Year 2 Reading Meeting on Monday of this week. The session provided an opportunity for us to share how we approach the teaching of phonics and how we continue developing the children’s reading skills within school. We also provided parent/carers with a number of reading resources which can be used at home to support the children when learning to read at home. The partnership between home and school really is important to ensure children reach their full potential. Diolch!
Community Forum
Glasllwch Community Forum has been a valuable platform for several years. Many successes, such as a ‘Well-being Webpage’, the ‘Cost of the School Day’ information document, and a clearer communication structure between school and home, have been developed thanks to the honest views shared by Community Forum attendees made up of staff and parents/carers from our school community.
We hope that this year, we can develop the Community Forum, further strengthening the partnership between the community and the school and use this valuable platform to share ideas, views, and suggestions for improvement to help all families and children reach their full potential during their time at Glasllwch.

Stay & Play Sessions
We are delighted to confirm that our Stay and Play sessions will begin on Tuesday 29th September '26. The sessions will take place 8:50-9:30am, providing an opportunity for pre-school children and their parents/carers to spend time playing and building relationships with other families within our school setting. These sessions have been very successful in the past and we have received some lovely feedback. Please do come along!
PTA Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our PTA AGM will take place on Tuesday 29th September in school at 6pm. Glasllwch has an excellent PTA who work very hard to organise events to raise money for our children. The PTA really does need your support to ensure it continues to be a success. All parents are automatically members of the PTA so please join us and get involved!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who supported the PTA BBQ last Friday. The event raised over £400 – fantastic! Thanks to all those involved in making it happen. Despite the mixed weather, everyone had a brilliant time. Diolch!
Local Authority School Improvement Service (LASIS) Partner School
This year we will be continuing our role as a Partner School with the regional consortia, LASIS. This collaboration involves members of our School Leadership Team supporting schools across the region as a Partner School for Languages, Literacy & Communication, and Teaching and Leadership.
Extra-curricular Activities
We are pleased to have our Autumn Term clubs up and running, offering a variety of extra-curricular activities for the children, including: Y3-6 Choir, Y5/6 Rugby, Y5/6 Netball, Y3/4 Art Club and Y1/2 Film Club. Spanish Club will also continue for Y1/2 children through an external provider (Kidslingo).
Clubs will run on a term-by-term basis. Children have to be collected from after school clubs, they are not allowed to walk home without an adult.

School Photographs
Colorfoto were in school this week taking individual and sibling photos. As long as you have registered your email address using the details on the slip, you will be informed when the photos are available to view and how to place your order. We were delighted to hear from the photographer how impressed they were by the all the children’s manners and behaviour! It really is lovely to hear such positive feedback – well done everyone!
Attendance
Congratulations Year 5 who have the highest attendance for September – 97.7% da iawn! Wow! Year 2 and Year 4 are also doing brilliantly with 97.5% attendance so far this academic year! Our Whole school attendance is 95.9% so far this term – just short of our attendance target 96%.
Good attendance at school is vital if your child is to achieve their full potential. We monitor individual pupil attendance on a regular basis and will contact you if your child’s attendance dips below our target.
All holidays should be taken during the school holidays and not in term time. Any planned absence from school must be requested in writing. Please use the Absence Request Form on the school website under Online Office. Such requests will be considered on an individual basis.
School Dinners
After half term the school dinner menu will change; we are awaiting an update from Chartwells, our school meal provider. Once the new menu has been updated on Parent Pay you will be able to book meals for after half term.
Jewellery Reminders
A reminder that for safety reasons the policy of the school is that children are only allowed to wear a watch and stud earrings, no other jewellery should be worn. Also, children are responsible for their own jewellery and for taking it on and off for P.E. All jewellery must be removed for these sessions.
