Gilwern Residential Visit

This week Year 5 spent two days away at Gilwern Outdoor Education Centre. They participated in a range of exciting activities such as gorge walking, climbing and canoeing. It was fantastic to see the children challenging themselves and being so supportive to one another. The children were impeccably behaved and were an absolute credit to school. Great job Year 5, we are all incredibly proud of you.

A HUGE thank you to Mr Burgess, Miss Summers and Mrs Bibi for giving up their time to take the children on the visit and for making it such a positive and memorable experience!

Sporting Success

We are delighted that a member of our Year 6, Seb, was selected to represent Newport Schools U11 in the Welsh Schools Junior Group Presidents vs Chairmans commemorative match – wow, what an achievement! This special fixture, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Junior Group, took place on Friday 29th May at Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli. Being chosen for such an occasion is a significant honour which recognises Seb's outstanding contributions and efforts on the field throughout the season. It is a testament to his commitment, hard work, and the positive attitude he has consistently demonstrated. We are so proud of you Seb – congratulations!

We are also proud of the rugby boys who played for Whiteheads RFC U11’s in the Tiger Cup Challenge. This is an annual tournament with over 6000 people attending from across the country. The boys played amazingly in every game over the two days and came out winners of their group (which was 48 teams in total) – amazing! This is a fantastic achievement for them and they got to shake hands with rugby legend Martin Johnson who handed them their medals at the presentation ceremony. Congratulations boys – we are so proud of you!

School Self-Evaluation and Development Planning

During the INSET Day on Monday, both staff and governors spent time reflecting on progress towards our 2025-26 School Development Plan targets and pulling together the outcomes of school self-evaluation activities to identify our improvement priorities for 2026-27. These will be shared with parents and carers next academic year. We have been delighted with the progess made this academic year in the areas of: Humanities, Science & Technology and Learner Effectiveness.

Breakfast Club

This week we have been pleased to open our Breakfast Club. It has been a pleasure to see the children come into school with enthusiasm, excited to enjoy a breakfast with their friends. Mr Martin and the Chartwells staff have done a brilliant job settling the children and providing a variety of activities for them to enjoy. We look forward to expanding this provision in the coming months.
