School News - Friday 6th November ‘26

We are now into the second half of what is always a very busy term in school. You will be aware of school being full of music, song, dance and verse as we prepare for our Christmas performances. It is the time of year when our curriculum planning allows us to focus on drama, singing, music, dance, speaking and listening, and performance. These Literacy and Expressive Arts activities give children an opportunity to excel, grow in confidence and shine in a variety of ways.
In order for us to maintain our high academic standards and to ensure that all children reach their full potential, we will still be covering all aspects of the curriculum. Our curriculum plans are designed to ensure maximum coverage and progression over the year, taking annual events into consideration.
PTA Shelter Success
Glasllwch has an excellent Parent Teacher Association (PTA), whose members work tirelessly to organise events and raise money for our children. Their support is hugely appreciated and helps to fund much-needed resources for the school.
We are delighted with the new playground shelter that was installed this week by Kingsley Build Group - diolch! A massive thank you to the PTA for their commitment to organising events to raise the funds for the shelter, and to everyone who has supported and participated in those events. It has been wonderful to see our school community come together to make this happen. Diolch pawb!

All parents are automatically members of the P.T.A. We really do need as many people as possible to get involved in planning and organising PTA events which will continue to raise money to buy essential resources and equipment.
INSET Day
On Monday, staff took part in a valuable INSET day focused on further improving teaching and learning across the school. During the morning session, staff enhanced their coding knowledge and skills with STEM Learning UK, exploring ways to build learners’ digital competence and incorporate coding opportunities across the curriculum. In the afternoon, staff engaged with research to further develop our enquiry-based curriculum and deepen understanding of high-quality teaching and learning pedagogy. The day provided valuable professional learning opportunities and helped ensure that our curriculum continues to engage, challenge and inspire all learners.
Congratulations Mr Burgess
Congratulations to Mr Burgess and his family on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl! We are delighted to share this wonderful news and send our warmest wishes as they begin this exciting new chapter. We wish them lots of happiness, special memories, and precious time together as a family.
Welcome
This week we have welcomed Ms Tom as our new Breakfast Club Supervisor. Ms Tom will work alongside Mr Martin to ensure the children attending Breakfast Club have a settled start to their day. We have also welcomed Ms O’Dwyer who is joining us as a Teaching Assistant. Ms O’Dwyer will be supporting teaching and learning in Year 2. Welcome to the team Ms Tom and Ms O’Dwyer.
Firework Safety
This week, during our whole school assembly, we reminded the children to be careful when they are out enjoying firework displays; if they find a firework they mustn’t touch it and should tell an adult.
Community Forum
On Monday 16th November 3-4pm, we will be hosting our first Community Forum session of this academic year and the focus will be on Supporting Reading at Home. We are really excited to welcome parents, carers and community members into school to work collaboratively with staff. We hope that the Community Forum will continue to be a partnership between the community and school; a valuable platform to share ideas, views and make suggestions for improvement.
The Community Forum are keen to welcome new members so if you would like to come along please contact Mrs Lane via the school email address: glasllwch.primary@newportschools.wales A big thank you to Mrs Lane for her ongoing commitment to the success of the Community Forum. (There will be creche facility available.)
Children in Need
Friday 13th November we will be taking part in BBC Children in Need Day – all children are welcome to wear something spotty or Pudsey. Our Community Committee have organised events for all children to take part in a Dance Challenge throughout the week. Donations to BBC Children in Need can be made through ParentPay, funds donated go direct to the charity. Thank you everyone for supporting this worthwhile charity.
Reading
The partnership between home and school is invaluable, and we greatly appreciate the way families encourage and support reading outside of school. Together, we can help every child become a confident, enthusiastic reader and foster a lifelong love of learning. Please read our Reading Newsletter.
