Purchasing Uniform
Most items of our school uniform, including: grey skirts, trousers and shorts, yellow polo shirts, yellow or purple gingham dresses and purple cardigans/jumpers can be purchased without our school logo from large high-street retailers.
The purple school sweatshirts/cardigans and yellow school polo tops with our school logo can be purchased from:
Beam Sports & Schoolwear, 26 Cambrian Road, Newport, tel: (01633) 222261
A wide variety of pre-loved uniform is also available to purchase from Glasllwch PTA at most PTA events.
School Bags
School bags should be of a reasonable size because of limited space in cloakrooms. Please label all your child’s equipment with their full name.
All children in Reception to Year 2 will need a reading folder with the school logo on – these can be purchased from the School Office.
P.E. Kit
All the children in the school have P.E. once or twice a week. It is vital that children take part in this activity. You will be informed of the days and times of P.E. activities when your child starts school. On P.E. days the children can wear their P.E. kit to school – P.E. kit worn must be in line with our uniform policy detailed below. All P.E. kit must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Black shorts and a white T-shirt
White socks and trainers for outside games sessions
For very young children elastic-fronted trainers/plimsolls are very useful, as they obviously avoid endless tying of laces!
All children will also need a black track-suit or jogger for wearing outside when the weather is colder.
Jewellery
Children may wear one pair of small ‘stud’ type earrings and a watch. This is the only jewellery to be worn by all children within the school. Children must remove all jewellery before the undertake P.E. sessions. If ear piercing is still healing, studs may be left in place to avoid risk of infection, however, parents must provide tape to cover studs for PE sessions.
The Halo Code
Our school champions the right of staff and students to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black staff and students’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance.
We welcome Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps.
At this school, we recognise and celebrate our staff and students’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on anyone’s ability to succeed.
We are very proud of our school uniform and the children look really smart in it. It helps our children feel part of the Glasllwch community and ensures they are easily recognised when out and about representing our school.
