We strongly believe that an environment where well-being is central, is an environment where everyone can thrive. We believe in promoting the Five Core Components of Wellbeing, developed in alignment with Welsh Government and the Gwent Whole School Approach to Well-being team:
Safety
Love and Care
Belonging
Efficacy
Agency
There are a number of ways in which we promote the well-being of our pupils at universal, targeted and specialist stages, including:
Curriculum design that promotes well-being, enjoyment, pupil-voice and success
Jigsaw RSE scheme
Termly pupil THRIVE assessments
Pupil participation groups across school in our Glasllwch Senedd
Healthy Schools initiative
Internet safety sessions
Recognition of self and community
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
Specific well-being focused interventions
Safeguarding training for all staff and related procedures
Referrals to outside agencies
Pupil surveys
Meta-cognition strategies
THRIVE
To help us understand the well-being needs of our learners, all children from Reception to Year 6 complete a termly THRIVE assessment. This is based on their thoughts and feelings towards different aspects of school life, such as how they feel about coming to school and their attitude to learning. This information is personal and child-led and ensures that we can appropriately support individuals who may be experiencing lower levels of well-being to help get them back to feeling their best!
UNCRC
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is an international human rights treaty that grants all children and young people a comprehensive set of rights.
The UNCRC is presently the most widely ratified international human rights treaty. It is the only international human rights treaty to include civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. It sets out in detail what every child needs to have a safe, happy and fulfilled childhood regardless of their sex, religion, social origin, and where and to whom they were born across over 40 substantive rights.
At Glasllwch Primary School we are committed to the UNCRC and to its implementation. We ensure that pupils of Glasllwch Primary School are aware of their rights as stated in the UNCRC. We encourage the children to recognise and value their own rights and the rights of others. At Glasllwch we believe pupils are treated fairly and with respect; we strive to support children in overcoming challenges and give them the confidence to reach their full potential, in a safe and secure environment.
Parent/Carer Well-being
To support the well-being of our parents/carers we utilise various strategies to build on the Five Core Components of Well-being:
Parent/Carer Surveys
Family Engagement Opportunities
