News Update - Friday 27th February '26

28 Feb 2026
Annwyl Rhieni/Warchodwyr,
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to school after the half-term break. Time is flying by and we can hardly believe we are already at the end of February! It has been a busy and exciting week. These are some of the highlights…
St. Davids Day Eisteddfod
This week in school we have been celebrating our Welsh culture and heritage. In school the children have been engaging in a variety of activities and competitions. The school has been filled with music, artwork, poetry and songs!
Today we held our St. David’s Day Eisteddfod. The children came to school in a variety of Welsh costumes and we celebrated with musical performances, artwork, singing and much more! We had a super afternoon! The children sparkled in their performances and the hall looked stunning, decorated with the children’s competition entries. Da iawn pawb! It was lovely to see so many parents in school admiring the children’s creations. Diolch!
It might have been a wet and windy morning; however, we managed to join together and sing the National Anthem in the hall. It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in bright colours, singing the anthem for our community. Thank you to all who stayed to take part, we truly appreciate your commitment.
Reception Walk to Ridgeway
As part of their learning linked to the Mabinogion, Reception enjoyed a walk to the Ridgeway. In school they have been reading the story of Branwen so while they were at the Ridgeway, they sketched what they thought Bran the giant would look like; he is rumoured to be buried on the top of Twmbarlwm. Many thanks to our many parent and grandparent helpers who came with us on the walk, we couldn't do it without you!
Playground Shelter
We’ve had an exciting week with the new shelter being installed on Monday. The children were very excited and intrigued to watch the progress each day as it was being built. Once it was completed, we officially opened the shelter on Thursday morning with a little help from our PTA and Mrs Griffiths. We are so grateful to EVERYONE who contributed and helped raise the money for this; we couldn’t have done it without you – diolch yn fawr iawn!

Help Us Build More Shelter on Our Playground!
As a school we understand how important it is to have outdoor shelter that provides safe, shaded space for outdoor play and learning. The PTA has been working tirelessly to raise the much-needed funds for our first outdoor shelter, and we are incredibly grateful for all your support so far!
As a school we would love to be able to install another sheltered area on the playground, offering more shelter and valuable space for outdoor learning and community events.

How to donate…
Please support our school in raising £10,000 to pay for the installation of an additional playground shelter and additional seating for under the sheltered areas. Every penny brings us closer to creating a fantastic space for our children. Together, we can make this happen! Thank you for supporting our school community!

World Book Day
Just a reminder that will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. We would love to see the children dressed as their favourite book character, bringing the book their character is from into school to share with their peers in the class.
The children are also invited to take part in a Book Swap. If your child would like to take part, we ask that they bring into school a good quality book which they are happy to swap with members of their class. More information to follow.
PTA Update
We are so grateful to our PTA committee for their ongoing hard work in organising and running events. This year the PTA have arranged a variety of events - these have been well supported and raised vital funds for our school.
Please do support our school PTA by getting involved in the planning and running of these events. Upcoming events:
Bingo Night- Friday 13th March
Quiz Night – Friday 24th April
Break the Rules Day- 22nd May
Summer Fayre – 3rd July
Next PTA Meeting – Tuesday 21st April 6pm. Please come along! We will need plenty of help to make the Summer Fayre a success!
Attendance
HUGE well done to Year 5 for achieving the highest attendance this term so far with 96.4%, exceeding our 96% target. Fantastic!
Our whole school attendance for this academic year is currently 94.5%, below our target of 96%. We are hopeful that attendance over the rest of this term and next term will increase as we leave the winter months and the cold and flu season and move further into Spring and Summer.
Water Bottles
As a healthy school we encourage children to drink from their water bottles throughout the school day - this is proven to have a positive impact on children's health and well-being. It is therefore very important that ALL children have a water bottle with them every day! The children are not allowed squash or flavoured water in their bottles. Thank you for your support in this.
We also ask, in the interest of hygiene, that the children take their water bottles home each day so they can be washed ready for the next school day. Thank you.
Health & Safety
Polite reminder – please DO NOT cut across the grass/mud when you are approaching the School Office or Nursery. PLEASE stick to the path. Thank you for your cooperation.
Welsh Phrase of the Week
‘Hwyl fawr!’ – Goodbye!
Upcoming Dates
Diary dates for the week ahead can be found on our home page. Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year.
Thank you for your continued support. We value the partnership we have between home and school. It is vital if children are to flourish and to reach their full potential.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs J. Munslow
Headteacher
