SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD
Diversity is a cross-cutting theme which runs through all aspects of our curriculum, from Nursery to Year 6. During our Whole School Cynefin Project this term, the children have been learning about the diverse nature of our community and developing their sense of belonging. This learning encompasses ‘Black History Month’ and ‘Show Racism the Red Card’.
Today in school we have been supporting ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ by wearing red. The children have been engaging in a variety of learning activities which promote diversity and support our whole school anti-racist approach.
Reception talked about similarities and differences through circle-time activities
Year 1 had Elmer Day to celebrate their curriculum work on diversity and anti-racism
Year 2 talked about racism and what this means
Year 3 discussed friendships and how we celebrate differences
Year 4 learned about embracing differences and speaking up about racism
Year 5 found out about migration and the importance of speaking up about racism
Year 6 have been learning about how we can challenge racism by being anti-racist in our actions
Please remember to follow your child’s learning through regular updates on Seesaw and on our school Twitter/X.
PTA SPOOKY DISCOS
Glasllwch has an excellent Parent Teacher Association (PTA) who work very hard to organise events to raise money for our children. Yesterday the Spooky Discos were a HUGE success; the children looked amazing in their costumes and everyone had a brilliant time! A HUGE thank you to all those involved in organising and running the discos and also to all those who came along and supported the event, raising £558 – fantastic! Thank you everyone!
School has already received £200 contribution for each class from the PTA – this money is being used to enhance classroom resources. As in previous years, the children are involved in deciding how class PTA money will be spent.
The PTA are busy organising a number of events for this term:
Break the Rules Day – Friday 25th October
Christmas Wreath Making – Thursday 5th December 6-8pm
Christmas Fete – Friday 13th December, 3:10pm
Christmas PJ Day – Friday 20th December
The next PTA meeting will be in Tiny Rebel on Thursday 7th November. Please do come along and get involved. These events provide an opportunity to have fun and meet new people as well as raising important and much needed funds for school. A big thank you to the PTA for their ongoing commitment.
HEDGEHOG RESCUE IN YEAR 2
Year 2 had a visit from Sue a hedgehog specialist, they learnt all about Hedgehogs and how people can look after them. Once again, we are pleased to be engaging with local community groups.
GLASLLWCH SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Glasllwch School Development Plan is our document that outlines our focus for the year. Our priorities for improvement are identified as a result of:
Monitoring and evaluating provision and standards from last year
Listening to learners, parents, governors – our school community
Aligning to Welsh Government initiatives – our journey to Curriculum for Wales 2022
Aligning to the LA and the EAS priorities.
Our priorities this year:
Leadership – To grow leadership capacity within school ensuring leaders at all levels (including learners) are empowered to develop professional practices which contribute positively to the realisation of our school vision and aims, whilst supporting the wider-system.
Improving Pedagogy – To further develop pedagogical approaches ensuring all learners are supported in developing learner effectiveness, increasing their self-motivation, self-regulation, resourcefulness, reflection and resilience in becoming ambitious capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives.
Curriculum and Progression – To continue to design and deliver a coherent and progressive curriculum which aligns to the principles of progression, where purpose-led learning experiences within authentic and relevant contexts enable learners to become ethically informed citizens and enterprising creative contributors.
Wellbeing, Equity & Inclusion – To ensure high levels of well-being and engagement within our school community through development of a whole-school approach to well-being which establishes: sustainable and effective partnerships; promotes an anti-racist culture; and ensures appropriate support and provision for all learners, supporting them in becoming healthy, confident individuals and informed citizens of Wales and the world.
We will monitor and evaluate our progress towards these objectives throughout the year. This will involve all of our stakeholders, including parental surveys and questionnaires in order for us to get your views. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
