Council Leaders Visit Glasllwch
Yesterday we welcomed Councillor Dimitri Batrouni (Leader of Newport City Council) and Councillor Deborah Davies (Deputy Leader of Newport City Council) to Glasllwch. It was a pleasure to be able to show them our school and share some of our successes. They were very complimentary of our warm family ethos and commented on our happy and well-behaved children.
Project Launch Days
School has been alive with excitement over the past fortnight as the children have engaged in ‘launch days’ to mark the beginning of their Spring Term projects! The children have experienced a variety of activities linked to their projects – these opportunities create authentic contexts for learning whilst allowing the children to shape their own learning.
Year 5 Visit to SS Great Britain
For the launch of their project ‘Cogs and Queens’ Year 5 visited the SS Great Britain. Whilst they were there the children had a tour of the ship and carried out a passenger investigation workshop. They learnt lots about Brunel and his other engineering achievements, such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Great Western Railway. All the children were well behaved and a credit to the school. Da iawn pawb! Thank you to those parents who helped out!
Number Tots
This week we started another block of Number Tots sessions for our Nursery age learners and their parents/carers. These sessions are interactive and provide parents/carers with an opportunity to engage in a variety of maths games and songs with their child which can then be used at home to develop mathematical understanding. All parents/carers are provided with a bank of resources to support them in replicating the activities at home with their child. Last term these sessions were well attended with very positive feedback, reflecting our successful ongoing enagement with families and the wider community. A huge thank you to Miss Martin and Mrs Ash for facilitating these sessions.
Community Forum – Get Involved!
Our next Community Forum will take place on Friday 7th February 3-4pm in the school hall. We value the contribution that parents, carers and community members can offer and would encourage you to come along and get involved in improving our school. Our vision ‘to be a school at the heart of the wider community’ encourages a sense of connectedness which we hope can be developed through our Community Forum.
Year 1 Dental Checks
This week the dental nurses were in school carrying out dental checks in Year 1. The children who took part were well behaved and enjoyed it.
