News Update – Friday 24th January ’25

24 Jan 2025
Sign Language
It was wonderful to see the children in Year 5 and Year 6 learning sign language this week. They had a fantastic time with Del, from New Directions, learning how to sign colours, animals, daily phrases, days of the week and much more. The children even performed ‘What a Wonderful World’ using sign language! Bendigedig! Diolch Del!
First Aid
Year 6 were also lucky enough to work with Oliver from New Directions who taught the children some essential first aid skills, including how to treat cuts, nosebleeds, use bandages and carry out CPR chest compressions. Really important life skills – da iawn pawb!

Senedd Glasllwch
Involving learners in realising our school vision and aims is a fundamental aspect of our philosophy and approach to pupil participation. One of the mechanisms through which learners are empowered to shape their school experience is through Senedd Glasllwch. Senedd Glasllwch provides learners from across the school with the opportunity to express their views about school life in a forum where they will be listened to and action taken when appropriate. Each group meets on a regular basis, with a supporting adult, to develop ideas and actions linked to their action plan targets.
Cardiff Metropolitan University Partnership
As a school we have a well-established partnership with Cardiff Met. University, supporting the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme for their PGCE students. Next week three PGCE students will be joining us for their second Clinical Practice placement; they will be based in Reception, Year 2 and Year 4. Whilst the students are placed with us they will be well supported by their class mentors and Senior Mentor, Mrs Zahr, to ensure continuation of high-quality teaching and learning. We look forward to welcoming them to Glasllwch.
Save the Date – e-Safety Workshop
As a school we have previously hosted e-Safety workshops for parents/carers in order to support families in keeping their children safe online. Recently we have had a number of people express an interest in another of these sessions, amid increasing concerns around online safety. As a result, we have asked PC Alex Donne, from Gwent Police, to facilitate an e-safety session for parents/carers on Monday 17th March 4-5pm. We are fortunate to have PC Donne provide this important session so would encourage you to come along.
