Holocaust Memorial Service
On Monday 27th January we took four Year 6 children to the Holocaust Memorial Service at St. Woolos Cathedral. It was a very poignant service attended by Headteachers, Councillors, LA Officers and children from across the authority. We were so proud of the four children we took. Not only was their behaviour exemplary, but they demonstrated an understanding of why we were there and what the service was about. Da iawn pawb!
Football Success
This has been a brilliant week for Glasllwch football team who have played two away games at Jubilee and Park and Monnow Primary Schools. Glasllwch won both matches! Llongyfarchiadau pawb! The children played really well in both games and enjoyed playing matches against other Newport schools. Thanks to Jubilee Park and Monnow for hosting the matches.
Reception visit to Meadows Farm
On Wednesday, Reception went to visit Meadows Farm in Caerphilly. While they were at the farm they spent time learning about the animals and taking part in an animal petting workshop. They also enjoyed playing in the park. The children had a fantastic time! A huge thank you to the parents who supported us with this trip.
Y Cwricwlwm Cymreig
The week beginning 17th February, will be our designated Welsh culture and heritage week in school. During this week the children will be engaged in a variety of activities and competitions linked to our Welsh culture and heritage.
Our whole school Eisteddfod to celebrate St. David’s Day, will be held on Tuesday 4th March and will be an opportunity for children across the school to celebrate their achievements. On the day of the Eisteddfod the children can come to school wearing Welsh National costume or National costume from their country of origin.
Home Learning Eisteddfod Competitions:
Each year group has a theme and the children are encouraged to produce one item following that theme. They can either: paint, collage, draw, make a model, sew, cook or write about their theme. The themes for each year group are:
Nursery | Sheep |
Reception | Daffodils |
Year 1 | Welsh costume |
Year 2 | Dragons |
Year 3 | Welsh castles |
Year 4 | Welsh food |
Year 5 | Welsh history and heritage |
Year 6 | Welsh art and artists |
The entries should be brought into school by Monday 3rd March. Children should invent a nom–de–plume to label their work with.
The school hall will be decorated with all the children’s entries ready for the Eisteddfod celebrations. If you would like to view the children’s competition entries you are welcome to do so on Wednesday 5th March at 3:15pm when the school hall will be open to parents/carers.

Please remember that all holidays should be taken during the school breaks and not in term time. Any planned absence from school must be requested in writing via the office or the school website. Such requests will be considered on an individual basis. We can only improve our attendance and achieve our target with your support.
Good attendance at school is vital if your child is to achieve their full potential. It is important that all children are in school and ready to learn by 9am. The school doors are open from 8.50am for the children to filter into classrooms. The school gates close at 9am so that the teachers can start lessons promptly, as soon as the register has been called. Children arriving late are missing out on valuable learning opportunities. It is also important that children do not arrive on the yard too early. Please note that supervision starts at 8.50am.
Thank you for your continued support.
