News Update – Friday 20th December ’24

20 Dec 2024

We have reached the end of a very busy and productive term in school. The children have worked hard and have experienced and enjoyed a range of activities through our whole school Cynefin project. They have benefited enormously from these experiences and have developed new skills and grown in confidence and independence; we are so proud of everything they have achieved.

Here are some of the highlights from this week…

Choir Visit to Home Valley

This week Glasllwch School Choir and our Community Committee visited Home Valley, one of our local community residential homes. The children sang a number of Christmas songs for the residents, delivered a Christmas hamper and Christmas cards made by the children. The children and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, singing along together to some Christmas favourites. It was a fantastic intergenerational experience for everyone and enabled our children to spread some festive cheer within our local community! Da iawn pawb!

A big thank you to the residents of Home Valley for being so welcoming and to Miss Summers, Mrs Ash and Miss Morgan for all their hard work supporting the choir this term.

Trinity Church Christingle Service

A HUGE thank you to our friends at Trinity Church for kindly putting together a super Christingle Service on Wednesday of this week. The children, staff and parent helpers thoroughly enjoyed singing carols and Christmas songs as well as hearing about the significance of advent. We all came away with a Christingle and a book to take home. It was lovely for the children to be in the church for the service. Thank you to all our parents who helped walk the children to and from the church.

Whole School Pantomime Visit

The children and staff had a great time watching the production of ‘Dick Whittington’ at The Riverfront Theatre on Tuesday. ‘Oh yes we did!’ It really was a fabulous trip. Thank you to all our parent helpers!

Christmas Parties

The children thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas parties this week. Father Christmas visited the Reception to Year 2 children during their party on Thursday afternoon and all children across the school received a Christmas present from the PTA. Diolch PTA!

Attendance

Attendance figures this year so far are as follows. Well done to Year 4 for having the highest attendance this academic year. Our whole school attendance for this term is 95.7%, very slightly below our whole school attendance target of 96% – we are so close!

Good attendance at school is vital if your child is to achieve his / her full potential. We monitor individual pupil attendance on a regular basis and will contact you if your child’s attendance dips below our target of 96%.

All holidays should be taken during the school holidays and not in term time. Any planned absence from school must be requested in writing. Such requests will be considered on an individual basis.

It is vital that all children are in school and ready to learn by 9am. The school doors are open from 8.50am for the children to filter into classrooms and will close at 9am. The teachers start lessons promptly, as soon as the register has been called. Children arriving late are missing out on vital learning opportunities. Once again thank you for your continued support.

PTA

A BIG thank you to the PTA committee for organising and running the Christmas Fayre last Friday – it was a huge success raising over £1000 – amazing!!! Thank you to everyone for your support! The money raised by the PTA will be used directly to enhance our school environment and the learning experiences of all the children in school. We look forward to many more events in 2025!

Upcoming Dates

6.1.25 – School reopens for the Spring Term 2025

15.1.25 – Y1 Dental Checks

Please access the full diary dates on our school calendar.

Thank you for your ongoing support this term. The partnership between home and school is vital if the children are to flourish, reach their full potential and if we are to continue to strive towards our vision to be a ‘Centre of Excellence’.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
