News Update – Friday 13th December ’24

13 Dec 2024
It has been another very busy week in school with lots of successes to celebrate….
Aladdin!
This week we have continued to welcome our school community into school to enjoy our Year 3 to Year 6 Christmas performance of Aladdin! The children were absolutely fantastic – singing, dancing and acting with confidence and enthusiasm! We are so proud of them! Well done everyone!
A HUGE THANK YOU to Mr Cornelius for helping us with the music and to all the staff for their hard work! Also, a BIG thank you to all the parents who have put together costumes for the performances – the children all looked amazing! Thank you!

Year 5 Penny Whistle Concert
On Thursday the whole school and parents/carers thoroughly enjoyed listening to Year 5 playing a number of pieces on their penny whistles. Following a ten-week block of Gwent Music lessons with Donald, the children have shown great progress in their musical ability. They performed brilliantly! Da iawn pawb! Diolch Donald!
Nursery Trip to Colliers Farm
This week children from our Seren Fach Nursery visited Father Christmas at Colliers Farm in Caerphilly. The children had a fantastic time! Thank you so much to all those parents who were able to help with the visit.
PTA Christmas Fayre
This afternoon our school was buzzing with excitement as everyone enjoyed our PTA Christmas Fayre. Glasllwch School Choir made their debut performance whilst the audience enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies. It was lovely to see so many people there to enjoy the Christmas activities, games, stalls, refreshments and of course Santa’s Grotto!
A MASSIVE thank you to the PTA for all their hard work in making the event such a huge success! Also, a BIG thank you to all the parents and businesses who donated raffle prizes; cups filled; gifts wrapped and time volunteered!
BBC 500 Words
We are delighted to announce that ten of our fabulous children have been selected to go through to round two of the BBC 500 words competition! The BBC received tens of thousands of entries with only 5,000 going through to the second round of judging by the Reading Agency. Huge congratulations to Elin, Noah, Sophie, Lexie, Alexa, Edward, Saul, Daisie, Frankie and Ralph! We are very proud of you – well done!
Christmas Jumper Day – Save the Children
On Thursday we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day, raising money for Save the Children. The children came into school wearing their Christmas jumpers – they all looked fantastic! Thank you for supporting this important cause. A fantastic £109 has been raised so far. If you would like to donate you can use this Just Giving link: https://christmas.savethechildren.org.uk/fundraising/cjd240017212 (This money goes directly to the Save the Children.)
Christmas Lunch
On Wednesday the children enjoyed their Christmas dinner. Thank you to Donna and Stevie from Chartwells who cooked the dinner and to the PTA who provided all the children with Christmas crackers! Diolch!
Extra-Curricular Activities
All of our extra-curricular activities have been well attended throughout this term, offering a variety of opportunities for the children to engage in a range of activities outside of school hours. These have included Netball, Football, Rugby, Craft and Choir. Thank you to all the staff and parents who organised and run these activities.
In January you will receive an email about the extra-curricular activities that will be running during the Spring Term.
