News Update – Friday 6th December ’24

6 Dec 2024

Lights, Camel, Action!

It has been fantastic to be able to welcome our school community into school to enjoy our Reception to Year 2 Christmas performance of Lights, Camel, Action! The children were absolutely brilliant – singing, dancing and acting with confidence and enthusiasm! We are so proud of them! Well done everyone!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the staff for their hard work! Also, a BIG thank you to all the parents who have put together costumes – the children all looked amazing! Thank you!

Cardiff Bay Experience

This week Year 4 visited Cardiff Bay. They had a boat tour of the bay, visited the Coal Exchange and went to Mount Stuart Primary school to learn about Betty Campbell. They had a fabulous day learning about the history of Cardiff Bay and the importance of significant landmarks in the area. We were so proud to hear from the tour guide that the children were incredibly well behaved throughout the day. Da iawn pawb! Thank you to all our parent helpers for joining us.

Christmas ICE Assembly

This week children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in a special Christmas assembly with Mrs Kemp and Mrs Curtis from our local churches. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Christmas story.

Welcome Back Mrs Glencross

This week we welcomed Mrs Glencross back to school following her maternity leave. It certainly is lovely to have Mrs Glencross back as part of our Glasllwch team. Mrs Glencross will be taking on the role of Year 1 classroom teacher alongside Mrs Zahr.

PTA Update

A MASSIVE thank you to all those who attended the Christmas wreath making workshop in school last night. There were some impressive creations and everyone had a great time! This event raised a fantastic £500 which will be used to buy essential learning resources for the children. Thank you so much everyone!

We look forward to welcoming you to our Christmas Fayre on Friday 13th December at 3:10pm. The children will be dismissed to an adult at 3:10pm and must then attend the fayre with an adult.  We are very excited about our school choir singing at 3:30pm; there will be mulled wine and mince pies for you to enjoy whilst listening.  There will also be a variety of craft activities and Christmas stalls, including Santa’s Grotto! Please do come long and join us.

PTA Cups – today your child will have come home with a Christmas cup to fill with sweets/chocolate for the Christmas Fayre. Please can these be returned to school by Wednesday 11th December. Thank you!

Christmas Jumper Day – Save the Children

Thursday 12th December is National Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children. The children can come to school wearing their Christmas jumpers and we are suggesting everyone can make a small donation via our Save the Children Just Giving page – this will be shared with you via email next week.  Thank you in anticipation of your support.

Parents in School

At Glasllwch we recognise the partnership between home and school is vital if children are to flourish and reach their full potential. We value the support we receive from parents and encourage your active participation in the full life of the school. Any parents, who are willing to help in school in any way, or who have expertise in particular areas and are willing to share this with us, please email the school office or speak to your child’s teacher. For safety reasons we will need to carry out police checks on any parents helping out in school.

Snow

We have been fortunate this term to have been without any significant snowfall. Hopefully this will continue but in the event of heavy snowfall the following will apply:

  • A risk assessment will be carried out by the Head Teacher/Site Manager. This will involve assessing the school site for health and safety risks to children and staff.

  • If a decision to close school to children is made, a notice will be put on the school website by 8am and a text message sent to all parents.

  • The Local Authority will also be contacted and school will be added to the Newport City Council website for school closures.

  • If you are unsure about whether we are open or closed please telephone the school.

NB:  Every attempt will be made to keep school open but obviously the health and safety of the children and staff must come first.
