Lights, Camel, Action 2 – The Sequin!

It has been fantastic to be able to welcome our school community into school to enjoy our Reception to Year 2 Christmas performance of Lights, Camel Action 2 – The Sequin! The children were absolutely brilliant – singing, dancing and acting with confidence and enthusiasm! We are so proud of them! Da iawn pawb!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the staff for their hard work! Also, a BIG thank you to all the parents who have supported the children in learning their parts and putting together costumes - the children all sounded and looked amazing! Thank you!

Year 4 Sustainability Project

Diolch to Mr Fairie and Ashley from Siemens Gamesa who came to talk to Year 4 about their jobs within the wind turbine industry. They showed Year 4 what a day in the life of a wind turbine engineer looks like, shared some facts about renewable energy sources and showed the class some of their tools and kit. Thank you so much!

PTA Update

A MASSIVE thank you to all those who attended the Christmas wreath making workshop in school last week. There were some impressive creations and everyone had a great time! This event raised a fantastic £613 which will be used towards paying for the installation of a playground shelter in the new year. Thank you so much everyone!

We look forward to welcoming you to our Winter Wonderland on Thursday 11th December at 3:20pm. The children will be dismissed to an adult at 3:10pm and must then attend the Winter Wonderland with an adult.  Please do come along and join us – it is set to be a superb event!

PTA Cups – on Monday your child will have come home with a cup to fill with sweets/chocolate for the Winter Wonderland. Please can these be returned to school by Wednesday 10th December. Thank you!

Christmas Dinner Day

On Wednesday 10th December the children will be able to enjoy a delicious Christmas Dinner. The children can come to school wearing their Christmas jumpers. Thank you to the PTA who will be providing Christmas crackers for all the children. Diolch!

A Glasllwch Child’s Christmas

We are looking forward to inviting our school community into school again next week for our Year 3 – Year 6 performance of A Glasllwch Child’s Christmas.  The performance has been created using the children’s ideas; they have developed their own dance pieces with Ballet Cymru, and have been busy learning a variety of songs to sing. We ask that ALL children attend all four performances, including the 5pm performance on Tuesday 9th December.  This year all the children are playing a key role so it is vital that everyone attends. Thank you so much for your support!

Parents in School

At Glasllwch we recognise the partnership between home and school is vital if children are to flourish and reach their full potential. We value the support we receive from parents and encourage your active participation in the full life of the school. Any parents, who are willing to help in school in any way, or who have expertise in particular areas and are willing to share this with us, please contact your child’s class teacher. For safety reasons we will need to carry out police checks on any parents helping out in school.

Snow

We have been fortunate this term to have been without any significant snowfall. Hopefully this will continue next term but in the event of heavy snowfall the following will apply:

·  A risk assessment will be carried out by the Head Teacher/Site Manager. This will involve assessing the school site for health and safety risks to children and staff.

·  If a decision to close school to children is made, a text message will be sent to all parents.

·  The Local Authority will also be contacted and school will be added to the Newport City Council website for school closures.

·  If you are unsure about whether we are open or closed please email the school.

NB:  Every attempt will be made to keep school open but obviously the health and safety of the children and staff must come first.

Welsh Phrase of the Week

‘Beth wnaethoch chi ar yr penwythnos?’ – ‘What did you do on the weekend?’

Upcoming Dates

Diary dates for the week ahead can also be found on our home page. Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year

Thank you in anticipation of you continued support and co-operation.

Best wishes,

Mrs J. Munslow

Headteacher
