Project Launch Days

School has been alive with excitement over the past fortnight as the children have engaged in 'launch days' to mark the beginning of their Spring Term projects! The children have experienced a variety of activities linked to their projects - these opportunities create authentic contexts for learning whilst allowing the children to shape their own learning.

 Air Quality Theatre Performance

This week Year 5 and Year 6 enjoyed watching a performance of "Abbie Ayre & the Shed of Science". The performance involved interactive challenges, lots of laughs but also made us think about the importance of clean air for our health and how we can help to reduce pollution in our environment and especially around school. The performance left us thinking about taking more opportunities to walk or bike to school to reduce car fumes outside the gates, making sure we turn off electrical items and lights when we are not using them and the importance of working together to enact change. Diolch yn fawr to Performance in Education for visiting us!

Community Forum

A huge thank you to those who attended our Community Forum on Monday. During the session there was opportunity to discuss strategies to improve parental costs throughout the year. We hope this will help us to reduce a build-up of costs during pinch points throughout the year.

We value the contribution that parents, carers and community members can offer and would encourage you to come along and get involved in improving our school. Our vision 'to be a school at the heart of the wider community' encourages a sense of connectedness which we hope can be developed through our Community Forum.

Extra-curricular Activities

As a school we provide a number of extra-curricular activities which cover a variety of different areas of interest. Next week our Spring Term clubs will begin. These include:

·         Netball Club - Wednesday Year 5 & 6

·         Table Tennis (Newport Live) - Wednesday Year 3 & 4

·         Drawing Club - Wednesday Year 1 & 2

·         Football - Wednesday Year 5 & 6

·         Rugby Club - Thursday Year 4, 5 & 6

Clubs will run 3.30pm – 4.15pm. All children MUST be collected by an adult.

A big thank you to the staff who give up their time to run the sessions. Diolch!

Diolch!

It has been fantastic to see a noticeable improvement in the number of children arriving on time in the mornings this week. It really does make a difference when everyone is in school and settled and ready to learn at the start of the school day. Thank you for your support and co-operation. Diolch!

Playground Shelter

We are delighted that we have been able to approve the installation of a sheltered area on the playground. This has been made possible as a result of the money raised through PTA events and donations. We are so grateful to the hard work and commitment of the PTA and to all those within our school community who support the events and donate so generously. Diolch yn fawr! Having a sheltered area for the children and wider school community to use will make a real difference. We look forward to the shelter being installed later in the term.

Food Hygiene Rating

This week our school kitchen was visited by the Food Standards Agency. We are delighted that the Chartwells Team, who provide our school dinners, were awarded Food Hygiene Rating 5 – very good. Congratulations! A huge thank you to Donna, Stevie and Summe who do a superb job!
