Reception Curriculum Celebration

Yesterday it was a pleasure to welcome Reception parents/carers to our Curriculum Celebration. The children were so excited and thoroughly enjoyed sharing their learning from throughout this year. They sang and danced with enthusiasm, and spoke with confidence. It was wonderful to see some of the children’s achievements and the fantastic progress they have made this year! Da iawn!

Siarad Cymraeg Gyda Fi

This week Criw Cymraeg held a Welsh Workshop for Reception -Year 2 parents and carers. The children did a fantastic job of sharing some of the Welsh activities which we do in school and teaching the adults some key Welsh phrases. The feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you so much to all those who attended; we look forward to future sessions. Diolch Criw Cymraeg and Mrs Logan for organising and facilitating the session. Da iawn!

PTA Summer BBQ

We are looking forward to Glasllwch’s Summer BBQ on Friday 8th May – doors open 4:30pm, finish 8pm. A chance to spend time with friends, family and enjoy the (hopefully!) sunny evening! Tickets are £1 per person and can be purchased via ParentPay. The PTA are in need of more help in order to run this event – please do get involved! School continues to rely on much needed funds raised by the PTA.

Local Businesses

We are looking for local businesses who may be able to donate to our PTA charity, supporting us in raising money to build another shelter on the school playground. A MASSIVE thank you to Renishaw who have recently donated £500! Diolch yn fawr iawn!

Donations towards the shelter can be made using the following link: https://gofund.me/4fe7e0ffa  Please share the link with family, friends and local businesses who may like to support us. Diolch!

Healthy Schools

As a healthy school we encourage children to eat a healthy diet and teach them the importance of making sensible food choices. Our school policy is that children must only bring a healthy snack of fruit and vegetables for breaktime. They should also bring a sports cap bottle with water only – no squash please.

Welsh Government provide free school meals for all children in Wales in order to ensure children access a healthy lunch. As part of their school dinner, the children are provided with their main meal and also a selection of salad, bread, fruit, cakes and yoghurt. We have been advised by the LA that children who arrive with additional unhealthy snacks, to have with their school dinner, must be asked to put them back in their bags and take them home. Please support us with this by not sending your child to school with additional unhealthy snacks.

Personalised Assessments

During the Summer Term learners in Y2 - Y6 will be accessing personalised assessments in reading, numeracy and reasoning. The assessments will take place as an ongoing aspect of classroom-based learning and teaching.

These online personalised assessments are designed to support individual learner progression as part of the assessment arrangements that we have developed within school.

The personalised assessments are for formative use, providing teachers with additional information on the reading, numeracy and reasoning skills of the children. Assessment information provided by the personalised assessments can provide teachers, learners and parents/carers with an understanding of strengths and areas for improvement in these skills, thus informing planning for progression.

Assessment information from the personalised assessments will be shared with parents/carers before the end of the summer term via Hwb. Access to this feedback will enable you to support your children with their learning at home.

Attendance

A HUGE well done to Year 5 for achieving the highest attendance during the Summer Term so far with 97.4%, and also to Year 5 for achieving the highest attendance so far this academic year with 95.9%.

Our whole school attendance for this academic year is currently 94.2%, which is below our LA attendance target of 96%. We are hopeful that attendance over the summer term will improve.

Reminder: Holidays should be taken outside of term time. Doors open for children to filter in from 8.50am. It is vital that all children are in school and in classes by 9am so they are ready to learn. Thank you for supporting us in this.

School Uniform Reminder

As a school we take pride in our school uniform and consider it an important aspect of our school ethos and vision. We have noticed that a minority of children are wearing items of clothing and shoes that are not part of our agreed school uniform. We ask that all children wear school uniform and school shoes to school. Thank you for your continued support.

Below is a reminder of our agreed school uniform from the School Prospectus which can be found in the Online Office on our school website.

School Uniform:

Grey trousers, skirt or pinafore dress, purple sweatshirt or sweat cardigan, gold polo shirt, white or grey socks/tights and black shoes. In the summer, grey shorts and gold polo shirts or yellow/purple gingham dresses would be most welcome.

P.E. Kit:

It is also important that all children wear the correct school kit on PE days. Navy blue or black shorts and a white T-shirt and trainers for use outside. They also need a black track-suit or joggers for wearing outside when the weather is cold.

Welsh Phrase of the Week

‘Pwy sy’n cofio?’ – ‘Who remembers?’

Upcoming Dates

Diary dates for the week ahead can be found on our home page. Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year.

Enjoy a relaxing and restful Bank Holiday weekend.

Yours sincerely,
