Show Racism the Red Card
Diversity is a cross-cutting theme that runs through all aspects of our curriculum, from Nursery to Year 6. As part of our curriculum projects this term, the children have been learning about the diverse nature of our community and developing their sense of Cynefin. This learning includes Black History Month and Show Racism the Red Card. Today, we supported Show Racism the Red Card by wearing red. The children engaged in a variety of learning activities that promote diversity and support our whole-school anti-racist approach. Da iawn pawb!
Nursery Visit to Head Over Heels
This week, our Nursery children had a fantastic time at Head Over Heels Gymnastics at Trinity Church. They enjoyed playing games and moving to music, developing their balance and coordination. They also had the opportunity to use the apparatus to build their gymnastics skills. Everyone had a brilliant time! Diolch Head Over Heels!

Crucial Crew
Year 6 visited Raglan Barracks this week to take part in a Crucial Crew workshop. They learned all about keeping safe and making sensible choices. Da iawn!
Rugby Success!
Our Year 5/6 Rugby Team competed in the Newport Schools Autumn Shield at Caerleon RFC. They finished second in their group and narrowly lost in the semi-final to a well-drilled Pentre-Poeth side. The team showed tremendous effort in their next match against Marshfield, finishing 3rd out of 8 schools and winning the plate. Llongyfarchiadau!
Thank you to Mr Burgess and our adult helpers for making this possible.

Learning About Our Locality
This week, both Year 1 and Year 2 explored the local area to learn about its physical and human geographical features. The children carried out enquiry work, collected data, and developed their map skills, all linked to their current curriculum projects. Thank you to all the adults who supported these visits.
PTA Spooky Discos
Glasllwch’s fantastic PTA organised Spooky Discos at Trinity Church yesterday, and they were a HUGE success! The children looked amazing in their costumes and had a brilliant time.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and running the discos, and to all who attended and supported the event—raising over £1000. FANTASTIC!
Also, a massive thank you to Trinity Church for providing a venue while our school hall is out of use. We really appreciate your ongoing support—diolch!
School has already received:
£200 per class to enhance classroom resources

Glasllwch School Development Plan
Glasllwch School Development Plan is our document that outlines our focus for the year. Our priorities for improvement are identified as a result of:
Monitoring and evaluating provision and standards from last year
Listening to learners, parents, governors - our school community
Aligning to Welsh Government initiatives - our journey to Curriculum for Wales 2022
Aligning to the LA and the EAS priorities.
Our priorities this year:
Learning & Teaching - Improving Pedagogy
To further develop pedagogical approaches ensuring all learners are supported in developing learner effectiveness, increasing their self-motivation, self-regulation, resourcefulness, reflection and resilience in becoming ambitious capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives.
Curriculum & Progression - Science & Technology
To refine and enrich our Science and Technology curriculum, with an emphasis on Design and Technology and Computer Science, to ensure progression, coherence and impactful learning experiences support learner progression, aligned with the principles of progression within Curriculum for Wales.
Curriculum & Progression – Humanities
To design and implement a coherent, progressive Humanities curriculum that enables purposeful learning and supports learner progression, aligned with the principles of progression within Curriculum for Wales.
We will monitor and evaluate our progress towards these objectives throughout the year. This will involve all of our stakeholders, including parental surveys and questionnaires in order for us to get your views. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
Scholastic Book Fair
This week we have received an order of books worth £800 as a result of the Scholastic Book Fair during the parental consultations last academic year. A massive thank you to everyone who supported the book fair. These books will be used to support learning and teaching across the school. Diolch!

We’re delighted to see the new hall windows being installed—what a difference! The work is on schedule to be completed by half term, and we hope to resume normal use of the hall afterwards. Thank you for your patience.
Health & Safety Reminder
A reminder to take care on the pedestrian pathway when entering and exiting the school grounds. Please use the handrail provided and avoid cutting across under the trees. Many thanks for your support and co-operation.
Reminder - Parental Consultations
Parental consultations will take place Monday to Wednesday next week. Please make every effort to attend—we’d love to see 100% participation. Diolch!
Note: There will be no extra-curricular activities next week due to consultations.
Ballet Cymru – Year 3 to Year 6
We are delighted that children in Years 3 to 6 will participate in creative dance workshops led by Ballet Cymru next half term. These sessions will explore storytelling through dance, build confidence, and encourage collaboration.
The culmination of this work will be showcased in our Year 3 to 6 Christmas performances. To help fund this opportunity, we kindly ask for a voluntary donation of £5 per child, payable via ParentPay. Thank you for your support.
Staffing Changes Y1
As you will know, at the end of next week, Mrs Glencross will be leaving Glasllwch Primary School to take up an exciting leadership position at a local Newport school. This is a fantastic opportunity for her, and we are sure you will join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment. While we will be very sad to see her go, we are incredibly proud of all she has achieved and grateful for the positive impact she has had on our school community.
We are pleased to share that Miss Hughes has been appointed as the new Year 1 class teacher and will take over the role full time from Mrs Glencross and Mrs Zahr on Monday 3rd November 2025. Miss Hughes is a Newly Qualified Teacher who brings fresh ideas, great enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and learning. She completed a successful teaching placement at Glasllwch Primary School and is already familiar with our ethos and expectations.
