Twmbarlwm - Thank You!

A MASSIVE thank you to all the friends and family who sponsored the Y5 children on their Twmbarlwm walk! They have raised a fantastic £818! This money will support Bullies Out charity who provide valuable training for our Year 5 Playground Pals, St. Davids Hospice who regularly support our whole school events, and contribute towards our engagement with Ballet Cymru later this term. Diolch pawb!

Newport Grand Council

This week, two representatives from Senedd Glasllwch attended Newport's Grand Council Meeting at The John Frost School. Rhianwen and Ezra took part in a variety of activities provided by Newport City Council, giving them an opportunity to engage with the work of the council and share their views to influence decisions. They worked alongside pupil council members from across the city, as well as working with Chartwells to make ketchup, and Remake Newport to make a cushion out of a recycled school jumper. Both children were a credit to the school - da iawn!

Football Success!

On Wednesday a team of our Y6 children took part in a Newport Live Football Tournament at Spytty Velodrome. During the day the team played 13 matches - 8 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss; they scored a fantastic total of 18 goals! Amazing!  Mr Taylor was incredibly proud of the way that the children conducted themselves both on and off the pitch - da iawn pawb! The organisers of the event also commented on how well behaved the children were, which is fantastic to hear. Thank you to the parents who were able to support with transport – we couldn’t do it without you!

Wellbeing Update

The wellbeing of our children and community is at the heart of what we do. This term we will be continuing with our Community Forum which was established as a result of parental feedback.  We hope the Community Forum will continue to grow this year, creating a space for parents/carers and community members to engage with school and influence school life. The next Community Forum will take place on Monday 17th November ’25 at 3pm in the school hall. (There will be creche facility available.)  If you are able to, please do come along and join us. It would be great to see some new faces.

Family and Community Engagement

You will have received an email informing you of a number of family and community engagement events, including: PTA events, parent workshops, curriculum celebrations, etc. These are illustrated below. Please do come along and get involved.

School Lottery

As a school we rely on much needed funds raised by the PTA. A simple way to support the PTA and raise money for school is to join our School Lottery. If you are able to, please sign up HERE. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Learner Reviews

This term teachers have been meeting with groups of learners to set targets, these may include: personal/social targets, literacy, numeracy and learner effectiveness - learning about how they learn best. All children Y1-Y6 have targets; they are regularly referred to throughout each day. Learners self-assess their progress towards their targets and together with teachers and support staff, agree when targets have been met and new targets set. You can view your child's individual targets through SeeSaw, in the file named 'Learner Reviews'. Please talk to your children about their targets so you can support them at home in working towards them.

Intervention Programmes

Occasionally your child may receive additional support in Literacy or Numeracy in the form of ‘intervention programmes’. These programmes are to either support your child with a skill or concept that has been taught but they haven’t grasped or to extend their learning further. Whole class literacy and numeracy lessons take place each morning. Intervention programmes are additional sessions which usually take place in the afternoons. They are shorter sessions for between 20 – 30 minutes. Where possible, we try to ensure that intervention programmes are timetabled on a rolling programme so that children do not miss the same afternoon session each week. It may be that your child only needs to participate in a session as a one off, for a particular concept or it may be that they need to participate in the complete programme over a number of weeks. If your child requires regular intervention, you will be informed by your class teacher.

Upcoming Dates

Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year. Please note – upcoming dates for the week ahead can also be found on our home page.

Have an enjoyable and restful weekend. Thank you in anticipation of you continued support and co-operation.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J. Munslow

Headteacher
