School News- Friday 18th July ’25

18 Jul 2025
Dear Parents/Carers,
We have come to the end of a very busy and tremendously successful year in school. The children, staff, parents, PTA and governors have all worked extremely hard and once again we have had many reasons to celebrate!
Glasllwch continues to be a school to be proud of, where every child is valued as an individual and where we have expectations of real achievement for everyone. It is a school that strives to be a ‘centre of excellence at the heart of the wider community’. WELL DONE everybody!
Year 6 Leavers Concert and Trip
On Wednesday the Year 6 children held their leavers’ concert. The children took us on a trip down memory lane of their time in Glasllwch and told us about their hopes and dreams for the future. It really was super! Well done children and thank you to Miss Summers and Mrs Goldsworthy for all their hard work. Thanks also to Mr Hyland for supporting the children with their STEM projects this year.
Following the concert, the staff and children were treated to a session of bowling at Hollywood Bowl, Cwmbran, followed by lunch! A BIG thank you to the PTA for funding the trip.

Sports
A BIG thank you to all the staff who run after school sports clubs and organise matches and events: Mr Burgess for organising the rugby and football; Miss Martin, Mrs Bunn, Mrs McArdell and Mrs Fitzgerald for organising the netball; and those staff who have supported children attending events such as swimming galas, tennis competitions, hockey and cricket matches.
A BIG thank you also to Mr Hill for supporting with football sessions again this year! We will certainly miss you!
Also, a MASSIVE thank you to all the parents who have been into school to help out with our clubs and sporting activities – we really do appreciate your support.
Clubs and Pupil Groups
A HUGE thank you to all the staff for their time, commitment and enthusiasm with which they run after school clubs: to Mrs Ash and Miss Summers for Choir Club; Mrs Parsons and Mrs Ali for Drawing Club; Mrs King and Ms Templeton for Art Club; Mrs Goldsworthy and Miss Jenkins for Media Club; Mrs Zahr and Miss Venn for Film Club; and Mrs Bibi and Mrs Hall for Performing Arts Club.
Massive thanks also to Mrs King for overseeing all of our pupil participation groups and for her work, alongside Mrs Lane, with our Well-being Ambassadors. Thank you to Mrs Logan for her work with Criw Cymraeg, Mrs Glencross and Mrs Parsons for their work with the Digital Leaders, Miss Summers and Mrs Ash for supporting our Learning Squad, Mrs McArdell for her work with Eco Council, Mrs Zahr for supporting our Community Committee and Mr Burgess for his work with our Resolution Role Models. And, of course, the fabulous Teaching Assistants who work alongside the children to make these groups a success. These groups represent the children in our school, enabling them to have a say in how the school operates and to contribute to policies and procedures. Well done everyone!
Governors
A huge thank you to our Governing Body for their hard work and commitment throughout the year. The Governing Body plays a key role in supporting the strategic direction of the school. Their time and effort are very much appreciated.
Thank You Team Glasllwch
A HUGE thank you to our amazing team here at Glasllwch:
Teachers and Teaching Assistants continue to be nothing short of inspirational in ensuring all learners in our care have been supported in terms of their wellbeing and their learning. They have worked tirelessly and creatively, engaging learners in authentic, purposeful and meaningful learning experiences. You truly are fantastic!
Mrs Griffiths has ensured constant and effective communication between home and school. She manages the office incredibly efficiently and effectively. Amazing!
Mr Simmonds and Mr Cullen, our cleaning staff and canteen staff have played a vital role in ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of our school community. Superb!
PTA
Our PTA have worked incredibly hard this year – they have organised and run a number of fun fund-raising events which has raised a fantastic £6596.65!!! Absolutely amazing! These funds will be used to pay towards the installation of much needed sheltered areas on the school yard and field. Thank you so much PTA and everyone who has supported the events. There has been a really lovely community feel around school – diolch pawb!
Parent Helpers
A BIG THANK YOU to all parent helpers for your continued support in school. Without your help it would not be possible to take the children on trips, to operate so many successful after school clubs or to maintain the high standards that we have in school.
Goodbye and Goodluck!
It is time for us to say Goodbye to Year 6. They have been a truly wonderful class and we will all miss them very much. We wish them the very best of luck as they move to their new schools and look forward to hearing of their progress.
We also say goodbye to Mrs King as she takes up a leadership position at Marshfield Primary School in September. During her time at Glasllwch Mrs King has been a superb classroom teacher, showing huge commitment and dedication to providing the very best learning experiences for the children. Mrs King – thank you so much for all you have done for the children, staff and families at Glasllwch. We wish you the very best in your new role!
Thank You!
Finally, we would like to thank YOU for the support you have shown us throughout the year. The partnership between home and school is essential if children are to flourish and reach their full potential. The effectiveness of our relationship has been clearly shown through pupils’ progress in learning, children’s all-round achievements, feedback from the Education Achievement Service (EAS) and Local Authority (LA), and through having a school full of happy children. We continue to aim for our children to be: ambitious and capable; healthy and confident; ethically informed; enterprising and creative. We constantly strive towards our vision of being a ‘Centre of Excellence’ and to reach for the stars.
