Twmbarlwm Sponsored Walk
Today Year 5 have had a fantastic time embarking on their sponsored walk adventure! As a class they have been to Cwmcarn Forest Drive, where they have climbed Twmbarlwm! In doing so, Year 5 have been raising money to support Bullies Out charity who provide valuable training for our Year 5 Playground Pals, and also St. David's Hospice who regularly support our whole school events. We are so proud of all the children for their effort and determination it was wonderful to see them supporting each other and working as a team.
A huge thank you to all the parents who were able to help us today and ofcourse to all the friends and family who have sponsored this worthwhile event! Da iawn pawb! If you would like to sponsor the children, please do this via Parent Pay. Diolch!
Trip to Tredegar Park
The children in Year 2 had a fabulous time visiting Tredegar Park on Tuesday as part of their curriculum project ‘How can we help our community by caring for our parks, people and animals?’ The children looked at the landscape, learned about the facilities at the park, thought about human and physical features of the park and had a super time enjoying the playground! A big thank you to all the adults who helped make the trip a success!
Year 1 and Year 2 Reading Meeting
A huge thank you to all those parents and carers who attended our Year 1 and Year 2 Reading Meeting on Monday of this week. The session provided an opportunity for us to share how we approach the teaching of phonics and how we continue developing the children’s reading skills within school. We also provided parent/carers with a number of reading resources which can be used at home to support the children when learning to read. The partnership between home and school really is important to ensure children reach their full potential. Diolch!
Gwent Music – Penny Whistles
On Tuesday Year 5 began their Penny Whistles project, working with Donald from Gwent Music. During this term the children will take part in ten sessions, in which they will learn to play notes on the penny whistle, read music, play in different parts and use percussion instruments. We look forward to hearing them perform later on in the Autumn term. Da iawn pawb! Diolch Donald!
Play Together Sessions
Year 5 and 6 took part in ‘Play Together’ sessions provided by Newport Live. During the sessions they leant about the importance of making sport accessible and experimented with adapting a variety of games. Thank you Newport Live!
PTA Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our PTA AGM will take place on Tuesday 30th September in school at 6pm. Glasllwch has an excellent PTA who work very hard to organise events to raise money for our children. The PTA really does need your support to ensure it continues to be a success. All parents are automatically members of the PTA so please come along and join us!
EAS Partner School
This year we will be continuing our role as a Partner School with the regional consortia, the Education Achievement Service (EAS). This collaboration involves staff supporting schools across the EAS as a Partner School for Languages, Literacy & Communication, and Teaching and Leadership.
Extra-curricular Activities
We are pleased to have our Autumn Term clubs up and running, offering a variety of extra-curricular activities for the children, including: Y4-6 Choir, Y5/6 Rugby, Y5/6 Netball and Y1/2 Film Club. Spanish Club will also continue for Y3-5 children through an external provider.
Clubs will run on a term-by-term basis. Children have to be collected from after school clubs, they are not allowed to walk home without an adult.
A HUGE thank you to all the staff for providing these additional activities for the children. Diolch!
School Photographs
Colorfoto were in school this week taking individual and sibling photos. We will let you know when the photos are available to view and how to place your order. We were delighted to hear from the photographer how impressed they were by the all the children’s manners and behaviour! It really is lovely to hear such positive feedback – well done everyone!

School Dinners
As you will be aware, Chartwells have made changes to the School Dinner Menu from Monday 6th October through to half term. This is due to the installation of the hall windows as the school hall will be out of use during this time and therefore the selection of dinners available has been adapted for a short period of time. Thank you for your understanding whilst we work through these changes with Chartwells.
Jewellery Reminders
A reminder that for safety reasons the policy of the school is that children are only allowed to wear a watch and stud earrings, no other jewellery should be worn. Also, children are responsible for their own jewellery and for taking it on and off for P.E. All jewellery must be removed for these sessions.
Upcoming Events
Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year. Please note – upcoming dates for the week ahead can also be found on our home page.
Wishing you a relaxing and restful weekend.
