Learner Effectiveness

As a school we are working proactively to further develop the children’s effectiveness as learners, including developing a ‘Language of Learning’ with the children to support them in reflecting on and articulating strategies which help them to learn. Recently we have been joined by our School Improvement Partner (SIP) who carried out a review of our Language of Learning, alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team. During the review we met with children in Y2, Y4 and Y6 to look at their books and talk to them about learning behaviours they use to help them learn. The outcome of the review confirmed that our culture of learning is firmly embedded, and that most children can talk confidently about their learning. Most pupils can not only recognise successful learning behaviours but can verbalise and apply them independently. This is as a result of the positive strategic vision and staff development driven and modelled by leadership at all levels. Da iawn pawb!

Cluster INSET

Today we have held our annual John Frost Cluster INSET Day. During the day staff took part in a variety of workshops, engaging with good practice stories across our cluster of schools. At Glasllwch Miss Summers delivered workshops ‘Exploring the Concept of Narrative’ and Mrs McArdell and Mrs Zahr delivered a session ‘Developing Historical and Geographical Enquiry’. Both sessions received positive feedback and were described as ‘inspiring’ and ‘insightful’.

Comic Relief

Red Nose Day was organised by our Community Committee. The children had a fabulous time dressed up in red, or something funny, and taking part in Comic Relief activities. Thank you everyone who kindly donated! Thank you, Community Committee, for organising the day! If you would like to donate, please do this via Parent Pay. Diolch!

Parental Consultations

Next week we will be holding parental consultations. These meetings will provide an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s wellbeing and progress in learning with their teacher. If you are unable to attend, please contact your child’s teacher via the school office to arrange an alternative appointment. Thank you.

Book Fair

Next week we are very excited to have the Book Fair in school again. Last year this was a huge success and, as a result or your purchases, school benefitted from £800 worth of rich texts to support our curriculum. The Book Fair will be open in the hall during parental consultations so please do come along and have a look.

Welsh Phrase of the Week

‘Dyna trueni’ – ‘That’s a shame’

Upcoming Dates

Diary dates for the week ahead can be found on our home page. Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year.

Reminder: We will be celebrating Eid on Monday 23rd March, the children can wear special clothes. On Friday 27th March we will be celebrating Easter so the children can wear party clothes.

Thank you so much for your continuing support. The partnership we have between home and school is vital in ensuring the wellbeing of our whole school community and in enabling our children to flourish and reach their full potential.

We really are very proud of our school and of all our children.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J. Munslow

Headteacher
