Year 5 Curriculum Celebration

On Thursday we welcomed Year 5 families into school for our Year 5 Curriculum Celebration. It was wonderful to see the children perform their Welsh Country Dancing – amazing! The event also gave the children an opportunity to showcase the skills and knowledge they have developed so far this year through a range of authentic and engaging contexts. Thank you all those who were able to attend – we appreciate your ongoing support. Also, a big thank you to Mr Burgess and Mrs Hall.

Online Safety Workshop

Thank you to all those who attended our Online Safety Workshop this week. We hope that you found the session useful and are now more informed about age ratings, app privacy settings and general e-Safety concerns. Thanks to PCSO Alex Donne who delivered the session. If you attended the session, please fill out the evaluation form using the link below. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. https://forms.gle/F1M7Wdvwad9ebhn99

To further support families with e-Safety, we have compiled a range of resources suitable for parents from Hwb and nationalonlinesafety.co.uk with e-Safety information which we hope will be useful. We highly recommend you read through the ‘What Parents and Carers Need to Know’ posters which include information about age restrictions, privacy settings, risks and general information about children’s safety when using specific apps/websites/games.

To access these please use the link below: https://padlet.com/pjenkins6/e-safety-information-for-parents-and-carers-wo603oi6t13s (Please note – the password to access these resources was shared in the email you received directly from school.)

Year 5 STEM visit to Renishaw

This week Year 5 had a fantastic time visiting Renishaw for a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) day. They took part in two different activities during the day. In the morning, the children designed and made wooden marble mazes, using tools to cut the wood to size. In the afternoon, the children took part in a bridge building workshop – they were challenged to build a bridge using just paper and tape to see how much weight it could hold. The children were thoroughly engaged by the activities and came away with a greater awareness of STEM related careers which they may aspire to.

Welsh Language & Culture

As a school we are working proactively to further develop Welsh language and culture within our school community. This week we were joined by our School Improvement Partner (SIP) who carried out a review of Welsh language provision, alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team and our Welsh Lead (Mrs Logan). During the review we met with Criw Cymraeg, undertook a learning walk in Y3-Y6 and spoke to learners about their confidence and enjoyment when learning Welsh. The outcome of the review identified that planning and provision for Welsh is having a positive impact on children’s progress in their Welsh language skills. Da iawn pawb!

Comic Relief

Red Nose Day was organised by our Community Committee. The children had a fabulous time dressed up in red, or something funny, and taking part in Comic Relief activities. Thank you everyone who kindly donated! Thank you, Community Committee, for organising the day! Ballet Cymru

This afternoon children from Y3 to Y6 have enjoyed taking part in ballet workshops provided by Ballet Cymru. The children had a brilliant time. Thank you Ballet Cymru for the opportunity to engage in these sessions.

Goodbye Mr Huerta

Next week we say goodbye to Mr Huerta as he moves on to continue his studies in Computer Science. Thank you, Mr Huerta, for the support you have given the children at Glasllwch. We wish you all the best for the future.
