Year 2 visit to Newport Central Jam’e Masjid Mosque

It has been fantastic to see the children continuing to take part in first-hand trips and visits during this term, in order to enhance authentic learning experiences. This week, Year 2 went to visit Newport Central Jam’e Masjid Mosque. They had a tour of the mosque and learnt all about the different parts of a mosque. They learnt about key Islamic beliefs and why people go to a mosque. Thank you to all our parent helpers who helped with the visit.

Christmas Parties

Christmas Parties this year will take place on Tuesday 17th December for Nursery, Wednesday 18th for Year 3 to Year 6 and Thursday 19th December for Reception to Year 2. On their party days the children can come to school dressed in their party clothes. The children will play party games as well as enjoying some party food!

PTA Update

Glasllwch PTA are busy planning and preparing for the following PTA events:

Christmas Wreath Making – Thursday 5th December, 6pm
Christmas Fete – Friday 13th December, 3:10pm
Christmas PJ Day – Friday 20th December

All parents are automatically members of the P.T.A. We really do need as many people as possible to get involved in PTA events which will continue to raise money to buy essential resources and equipment.

PTA Raffle Prizes

The PTA are hoping for help with donations of:

Vouchers – shopping or restaurant
Gift sets
Experiences
Tickets to an event or place
Bottles (wine or spirit) and Chocolates

If you know of somewhere or someone you could ask for a raffle donation, or are happy to donate something yourself that can be used as a prize that would be amazing! Please could all raffle prizes be handed into the school office by the end of November, thank you!

Primary School Applications for Reception

Applications for Reception places starting September 2025 open on 6th November 2024 and close on 9th January 2025 at 5pm. It is vital that you apply between these dates. Apply on-line via www.newport.gov.uk/schooladmissions Decisions are issued on 16th April 2025.

Should you wish to look around Glasllwch School before making your application we have the following date for prospective parents/carers to look around: Thursday 12th December at 4:30pm. To attend you would need to book a place – please phone the school office: 01633 266398.

Healthy Schools

As you are aware, one of our school policies is that during morning break we allow the children to have a snack of either a piece of fruit, chopped up fruit or chopped up vegetables; Nursery to Year 2 children are also offered a carton of milk in school. We are concerned that a few children are coming to school with cereal bars or other snacks and in some cases without a snack. Please support us by sending your child to school with fruit or vegetables. Thank you for your support in this. We also ask that no nut products are sent to school, please remember this with snacks and sandwich fillings. Thank you.

Colder Weather

As the weather is getting colder, please make sure your child wears a warm coat to school with a hat and gloves to wear during playtimes and lunchtimes. Please ensure all items are labelled.
