News Update – Friday 24th May ’25

24 May 2025

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The children have enjoyed a busy and exciting first half of the Summer Term, becoming fully immersed in our enquiry curriculum projects; enabling the children to learn through relevant, first hand experiences.

Our project approach to learning promotes the development of self-esteem, independent learning, cross-curricular skills, understanding of social values and awareness of global issues whilst enabling the children to acquire new skills, concepts and knowledge. This term’s class themes continue to inspire the children to succeed in a range of interesting and motivating activities – this is reflected in the superb learning outcomes produced by all the children.

Sports News

This week our Y5/6 girls football team took part in a football tournament at Rodney Parade. The girls played brilliantly – drew two, won two and lost two. Well done girls – a great team effort!

On Wednesday the Y5/6 boys rugby team went to Caerleon for a Rugby Tournament. The team played brilliantly, coming third overall to win the plate. Da iawn pawb!

On Thursday Glasllwch played a friendly home game of football against Charles Williams Primary School. Year 5 and 6 split into two teams; the first team drew 2-2 and the second team played really well and put in a tremendous effort. Well done!

Diolch Mr Fairie

A big thank you to Mr Fairie and his colleague Ashley who came in this week to talk to Year 4 about their career in the wind turbine industry. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and learnt such a lot. Diolch!

Year 2 Curriculum Celebration

Earlier this week we welcomed Year 2 families into school for the Year 2 Curriculum Celebration. The children modelled their t-shirt designs, sang beautifully using British Sign Language, and engaged in a number of curriculum activities with their adults. It was wonderful seeing the children sharing their learning with such confidence. Fantastic!

Year 2 Road Safety

This week the children in Year 2 have continued with their road safety sessions. These sessions will provide the children with valuble life skills which we hope will keep them safe when crossing the roads.

Make Do & Mend Afternoon Tea

This afternoon the children in Year 6 enjoyed welcoming their families for a Make Do & Mend Afternoon Tea. The children sold their fabulous hand-made phone holders and freshly baked cakes. Thank you to those who were able to attend. A fabulous £76.23 was raised for the charity War Child. Well done Year 6!

PTA Break the Rules Day

We are so grateful to our PTA committee for their hard work in continuing to organise and run PTA events. So far this year the PTA have raised over £5000 – this is fantastic! Thank you everyone – you have done an amazing job!

A huge thank you to all those who supported the PTA Break the Rules Day. The children had a brilliant time and more vital funds were raised to provide resources and equipemnt for the children. Diolch!

If you are able to get involved with any PTA event planning or give your time to help run PTA events, please contact us: glasllwchpta@yahoo.co.uk

Preloved Uniform

Our PTA have been working hard to organise the preloved uniform so that we can offer good quality second-hand uniform to all families. Please email any requests for uniform to: glasllwch.uniform@yahoo.co.uk

Once again, a BIG thank you to the PTA.

Attendance

Well done Year 4 who have achieved the highest attendance so far this academic year – 97.1%! And so far this term – 98.3%! Brilliant!

Our whole school attendance is currently 95.5% – just under our target of 96%. We can do it!

Holidays

A number of parents are taking children out of school during term time for family holidays resulting in children losing out on valuable learning opportunities.

All absences other than illness must be requested. Requests for holidays will be dealt with on an individual basis according to attendance rates. If you take your child out of school for a holiday and you do not notify us in advance, your child will incur an unauthorised absence. All requests for holidays must be in before holidays take place.

Health & Safety

PLEASE KEEP TO THE PATH – As you will know we have a clearly marked pedestrian pathway which leads from the pedestrian gate up to the school playground, school office and nursery building. For health and safety reasons we ask that all visitors keep to the path; please DO NOT cut across the grassed areas. Thank you.
