Newport Schools Football Tournament
On Wednesday our Y5/6 Football Team took part in the Newport Schools Tournament at Spytty NISV. The team played 8 games in total, winning 5 and losing 3, as well as winning an additional friendly match. The boys represented the school excellently both on and off the pitch. They showed great character to come back and win 5 games, after losing the first 2. Da iawn pawb!

We have been delighted to see so many people visiting the book fair and purchasing books to enjoy. It has proven to be a great success which is fantastic! All the books purchased have earnt money for school to buy books which will enhance our curriculum and library areas. Diolch for your support!
Remake Newport
This week Year 4 were lucky enough to spend time working with Remake Newport to create a class quilt. The children each designed and made a section of the quilt to represent themselves, using sewing machines to bring their sections together to form one large quilt. The outcome really is wonderful. Da iawn pawb! Diolch Remake Newport!
Make Do and Mend
This afternoon Year 6 hosted their Make Do and Mend meal for their families as part of their enquiry "How did World War Two impact people's lives?". During the project, Year 6 have been developing their sewing skills to make phone cases and have designed and made a three-course meal using rationed ingredients. Families donated to the charity War Child and in return were treated to a fresh bread roll, vegetable soup and a jam roly-poly pudding.
Diolch yn fawr to all who came and donated.
Eid al-Fitr Celebrations
This week the children have been immersed in a variety of engaging and authentic learning experiences about Ramadan & Eid al-Fitr. During the week the children experienced activities across a variety of Areas of Learning and Experience; they developed their knowledge and understanding of the Islamic faith and enjoyed celebrating the diverse nature of our school community.
Easter Fun Day
In school today, we have enjoyed an Easter Fun Day! The children have been learning about the importance of Easter in the Christian calendar. They also took part in an Easter Parade wearing their Funky Easter Hats - wow, they looked amazing! Di awn everyone! The children have also had a great time this afternoon during our Easter Discos. All children have been given an Easter Egg to take home.
Parental Consultations
Thanks to all those parents and carers who engaged in parental consultations this week. These meetings have been invaluable in enabling teachers to discuss your child's wellbeing and progress in learning. We had almost 100% attendance, which is fantastic. If you have not yet had an opportunity to have a conversation with your child's teacher, please contact school to make an appointment.
Parent Governor Elections
The recent parent governor election has now closed. We are delighted to announce that Alma Afsar has been elected as our new parent governor. Mrs Afsar brings experience of education and is passionate about contributing to the governing body, supporting the school’s strategic direction and helping ensure that every pupil continues to thrive. A huge thank you to all those parents who submitted nomination forms.
PTA Update
It has been fantastic to see our PTA Go Fund Me page increase to nearly £1,000 already. Amazing!
The recent PTA Bingo night raised a fantastic £516, which is brilliant! Thank you everyone who supported this event. There are a number of PTA events planned for the summer term, these include:

· Outdoor Cinema – 8th May
· Break the Rules Day- 22nd May
· Summer Fayre – 3rd July
The next PTA meeting will be on Tuesday 21st April at 6pm in school – everyone is welcome so please come along and get involved.

Please share the link with family, friends and local businesses who may like to support us. Diolch!
Attendance
A HUGE well done to Year 3 for achieving the highest attendance during the Spring Term so far with 96.2%, and to Year 5 for achieving the highest attendance so far this academic year with 97.5%.
Our whole school attendance for this academic year is currently 94%, which is below our LA attendance target of 96%. We are hopeful that attendance over the summer term will increase as we leave the winter months and the cold and flu season and move further into the Summer.
Reminder: Holidays should be taken outside of term time. Doors open for children to filter in from 8.50am. It is vital that all children are in school and in classes by 9am so they are ready to learn. Thank you for supporting us in this.
