School News - Friday 22nd May ‘26

22 May 2026
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The children have enjoyed a busy and exciting first half of the Summer Term, becoming fully immersed in our enquiry curriculum projects; enabling the children to learn through relevant, first-hand experiences.
Our project approach to learning promotes the development of self-esteem, independent learning, cross-curricular skills, understanding of social values and awareness of global issues whilst enabling the children to acquire new skills, concepts and knowledge. This term’s class themes continue to inspire the children to succeed in a range of interesting and motivating activities – this is reflected in the superb learning outcomes produced by all the children.
Year 1 Curriculum Celebration
Yesterday we welcomed Year 1 families into school for their Curriculum Celebration. The children demonstrated their creative talents through a violin performance, Welsh singing and dancing. They engaged in a number of curriculum activities with their adults, sharing their reading, digital and expressive arts skills. It was wonderful to see the children sharing their learning with such confidence. Fantastic!
Sports News
This week our Y5/6 girls football team took part in a tournament at Rodney Parade. The girls conducted themselves fantastically, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and spirit. In the morning, the team got enough points to qualify for the plate competition in the afternoon. They got to the quarter finals where they lost out narrowly on penalties.
On Wednesday the Y5/6 boys rugby team went to Caerleon RFC for a Friends of Newport Rugby Tournament. The team played brilliantly, coming second overall. Da iawn pawb!
On Thursday Glasllwch played a friendly home game of football against Charles Williams Primary School. The score ended 7-2 to the visitors, however, it could have been a lot closer. The boys played excellently and didn't stop playing, scoring two well-earned goals at the end of the second half. Well done!
PTA Update
We are so grateful to our PTA committee for their hard work in continuing to organise and run PTA events. A huge thank you to all those who supported the PTA Break the Rules Day. The children had a brilliant time and more vital funds were raised to provide resources and equipemnt for the children. Diolch!
If you are able to get involved with any PTA event planning or give your time to help run PTA events, please contact us: glasllwchpta@yahoo.co.uk We really do need as many people to get involved as possible – as little or as much time as you can give. Diolch!
Next PTA meeting: Tuesday 9th June at 6pm in school.

Preloved Uniform
Our PTA have been working hard to organise the preloved uniform so that we can offer good quality second-hand uniform to families. Please email any requests for uniform to: glasllwch.uniform@yahoo.co.uk
Once again, a BIG thank you to the PTA.
Attendance
Well done Year 3 and Year 5 who have both achieved the highest attendance so far this academic year – 95.8%. Also, Year 3 have the highest attendance so far this term – 96.7%! Da iawn pawb!
Our whole school attendance is currently 94.2% - under our target of 96%. We hope this will improve during the next half term.
Holidays
A number of parents are taking children out of school during term time for family holidays resulting in children losing out on valuable learning opportunities. All absences other than illness must be requested. Requests for holidays will be dealt with on an individual basis according to attendance rates. If you take your child out of school for a holiday and you do not notify us in advance, your child will incur an unauthorised absence. All requests for holidays must be in before holidays take place.
Health & Safety
PLEASE KEEP TO THE PATH - As you will know we have a clearly marked pedestrian pathway which leads from the pedestrian gate up to the school playground, school office and nursery building. For health and safety reasons we ask that all visitors keep to the path; please DO NOT cut across the grassed areas. Thank you.
Welsh Phrase of the Week
‘Pwy sy’n cofio?’ – ‘Who remembers?’
Upcoming Dates
Diary dates for the week ahead can be found on our home page. Please visit our school calendar to access diary dates for the year ahead. We will continue to add dates to the calendar as we move through the school year.
Thank you so much for your continuing support. The partnership we have between home and school is vital in ensuring the wellbeing of our whole school community and in enabling our children to flourish and reach their full potential. We really are very proud of our school and of all our children.
Enjoy a wonderful half-term.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs J. Munslow
