School News – Friday 20th June ‘25

20 Jun 2025
Cardiff University
Year 6 visited the Confucius Institute at Cardiff University on Wednesday to experience a slice of university life and to learn more about the Chinese language and culture. They learned about the Dragon Boat Festival, Chinese Opera and Tai Chi, and had the opportunity to speak some mandarin, paint opera masks and make Dragon Boat Festival decorations! A full, but fun packed day!

Reception 2025 Welcome Meeting
Yesterday we held a Welcome Meeting for the parents/carers of children who will be joining us in Reception in September. Parents had a chance to meet Mrs McArdell, who will be their teacher next year, and to find out about transition arrangements. We also shared our school vision and values and gave an overview of the curriculum. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend and to Mrs McArdell for taking the time to organise and run the meeting.
PTA Update
A massive thank you to the PTA for continuing to support our school. We really do appreciate all your hard work!
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Summer Fete on Friday 4th July. On this day, school will be closing at 3pm for all year groups. All children must be picked up from school at this time. The fayre will be officially open to the public at 3.15 pm. The fayre is always a popular event – please come and support us!
Learning Conversations
As previously mentioned in our News Updates, we are holding ‘Learning Conversations’ in the coming weeks, providing an opportunity to spend time with your child looking at their books and talking with them about some of the activities and experiences they have engaged in during this academic year. Your child will have the opportunity to share with you the learning they have enjoyed, what they are most proud of and, for our older learners, how they have developed as a learner since September.
A reminder of the dates:
Monday 30th June – Reception, Year 1 & Year 2
Tuesday 1st July – Nursery AM & PM
Wednesday 2nd July – Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6
Allocated time slots between 2pm-3:30pm will be shared on Wednesday. If you have any questions please contact the school office. Separate times for Nursery children will be shared by the Nursery Team.
Parent/Carer Survey
At Glasllwch Primary School we aim to provide the very best school experience for all our learners. We value the partnership between home and school and believe it is vital to ensure children reach their full potential. As a school we are constantly evaluating and reviewing our practice, systems and processes; seeking the views of a variety of stakeholders. As parents/carers we welcome your feedback.
If you could complete the survey using the link that was emailed out to you, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Reporting Absences
A polite reminder that all absences need to be reported to the school office either by phone: 01633266398 or email: glasllwch.primary@newportschools.wales. This is important so that we can ensure learners are safe and maintain accurate records of attendance. Thank you for your co-operation.
Hot Weather
During the warmer weather we encourage the children to wear hats on the yard at play times and to have sun cream on when they come to school. Also, please make sure the children bring water to drink to school in a plastic sports bottle. All staff are aware of sun safety and will encourage the children to shade under the Gazebos if they are too hot.
A HUGE thank you to all those families who have been kind enough to lend us gazebos during the hot weather! We really appreciate it.
