School News – Friday 27th June ‘25

27 Jun 2025

What an incredible week it’s been at Glasllwch Primary School, filled with exciting achievements and proud moments!

Pupil Participation Learning Network Celebration Event 2025

On Thursday, we hosted Newport’s Pupil Participation Learning Network (PPLN) Celebration Event. It was an honour to welcome Councillor Dimitri Batrouni (Leader of Newport City Council) and Becky Sims (Assistant Head of Education, Newport LA). We also welcomed a number of schools from across Newport to take part in the event.

During the morning, the schools attending were able to hear Councillor Batrouni speak about his role as Leader of Newport City Council. Pupil groups from across Newport presented the projects they have been working on this year. Everyone was very impressed by the children’s presentations and their achievements – da iawn pawb! We were also lucky enough to have Chartwells provide nutritious and delicious snacks for everyone – diolch!

Glasllwch’s Criw Cymraeg presented the projects they have carried out this year; the children demonstrated excellent presentation skills, speaking with confidence and enthusiasm. They enjoyed taking part and came away from the event with some great ideas!

A huge thank you to Mrs King for organising the PPLN event and Mrs Logan for supporting our Criw Cymraeg throughout the year! Diolch yn fawr!

Newport Live Swimming Gala

This week some of our Y5/6 children visited NISV to take part in the Newport Live Swimming Gala. The children competed brilliantly coming second overall! Da iawn pawb! A great effort. Diolch Miss Martin and the parents who supported the event.

The John Frost School Performing Arts Concert

On Thursday, our Year 5 learners had a fantastic time at The John Frost School as part of our cluster transition arrangements. During the day the children were able to experience a taste of secondary school, engaging in a variety of different activities. The day culminated in a superb performance by all of the Year 5 children across the cluster. It really was fantastic to hear the children performing with such confidence and enthusiasm. Our Year 5 class performed ‘Part of Your World’ from the Little Mermaid – they were amazing and represented Glasllwch brilliantly! Thank you to all those parents who supported the concert – it really was wonderful.

Community Committee

This week our Community Committee have been supporting the PTA. They have been out and about in the local community promoting the Summer Fayre, posting flyers within the neighbourhood. Diolch!

Attendance

A HUGE well done to Year 4 for achieving the highest attendance so far this term (97.16%) and for this academic year so far! (97.39%)

Our whole school attendance is currently 95.3%, which is SO close to our target of 96% for this year – we are so close but need your support to achieve this!

Holidays

A number of parents are taking children out of school during term time for family holidays resulting in children losing out on valuable learning opportunities. All absences other than illness must be requested. Requests for holidays will be dealt with on an individual basis according to attendance rates. If you take your child out of school for a holiday and you do not notify us in advance, your child will incur an unauthorised absence. All requests for holidays must be in before holidays take place.

Polite reminder: Absences should be requested using our Absence Request Form in the Online Office of our school website.

Parking

Please, please can we remind parents of the importance of not double parking, parking on double yellow lines or parking dangerously to drop children off or pick them up. We continue to have a significant number of complaints from parents and local residents, who are HUGELY concerned about the health and safety of the children whilst crossing the roads. This really is a very serious issue. All vehicles parked dangerously or blocking driveways will be reported to the Traffic Enforcement.
